Lux has had enough of bench warming and he is doing all he can to get a regular starting place in Gregorio Manzano’s side.
“I don’t like being second choice at all but this is football,” Lux told Marca.
“It’s hard being a goalkeeper as there is only one position but my expectations are always the same and that is to play.
“I don’t like to be compared with the other ‘Keepers in the team but I hope to have a good pre-season and then the coach will decide who plays.”
The Balearic island club finished an impressive seventh in La Liga last term and they will be hoping to continue that trend next season.

Newcastle Prepare 7m Baptista Bid
The Sunday Sun is reporting that Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has targeted Julio Baptista as the ideal man to partner Danny Guthrie in the centre of midfield come the new season. It is being said that Baptista, who has been linked to the Magpies before, is also keen on a move to England - providing that the terms are attractive, and that a deal can be agreed with his club Real Madrid.
Madrid are thought to want something in excess of £12m (€15m) for the Brazilian hitman, whose nickname is "The Beast". Baptista had spent a season on loan at Arsenal, and had performed reasonably well. In that regard, although he may not be considered as a "proven" premiership player, he does seem like a good prospect nonetheless.

However, for all Messi’s magic, Guardiola still believes the youngster can still improve his game and he has offered some advice in order to keep the pint-sized hit-man on his toes.

He said, "It is hard to compare two different teams, both Barcelona and Chelsea have very good players, but Chelsea have the edge and have a great team spirit.

Manuel Almunia's solid displays in the red and white colours of North London prompted Emirates fans to chant his name for an England shirt, last season.
With England lacking a pool of top class glovesmen for Capello to choose from, the Italian technician may be keen to test out the Spaniard in between the sticks for the Three Lions.
Almunia is yet to recieve a call-up to his home nation, and seeing as Casillas and Valdes would be ahead of him in the pecking order, he may be waiting a long time.
The 31-year stopper receives a British passport on the 29th of December 2008, just in time to play a key part in England's World Cup qualifying campaing, should Capello grow tiresome of David James.

The concept of defence has never been a popular one at the Nou Camp. After all, why would a crowd fed on a diet of Cruyff, Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Messi, to name just a few, care about what happens on the other end of the field? This lack of concern for the back third of the pitch is often reflected in the relative lack of funds directed at strengthening the defence over the years, often to the club’s detriment. This summer, however, the new regime has spent the majority of its money re-enforcing Barca’s back line.
Goalkeeper
For all their best defensive intentions, the decision by the new management not to sign a new keeper is a baffling one. Technically, they have made a permanent signing, in the form of Jose Manuel Pinto, who was on loan from Celta Vigo for the second half of last season. However, this is nothing more than a convenient way of covering for the long term injury of the previous second choice, Albert Jorquera. Despite being a fine goalkeeper in his prime, the ageing Pinto is not realistically going to provide competition to a keeper, Victor Valdes, who desperately needs it. It’s not that Valdes is a poor goalie, but rather that he is far too inconsistent for a club aiming to win every competition it enters. For every spectacular performance, such as the 2006 Champions League Final, there is a horror show, such as his catastrophic night at the Bernabeu last year, a woefully inept showing capped off by a comical booking for feigning injury. Of course, world-class keepers are a rare breed (oh, for a Casillas in every team), but one can’t help but feel that if Valdes was not Catalan, he would have been shown the door a long time ago.

When Barca signed Gianluca Zambrotta two years ago, he was widely regarded as the best right back in the world. Two-footed, capable of playing on either flank, solid defensively, a dangerous attacker with a fierce shot to boot, there was no one to rival him. However, his performances for the Blaugrana left a lot to be desired, leading to his sale in the summer. His replacement? The undoubted heir to his throne, Daniel Alves. The rampaging Brazilian full back is worth every penny spent on him, and the prospect of an Alves-Messi combination will have left backs everywhere in serious depression.
Central Defence
Barca’s central defensive signings this year are more about squad depth than superstardom, thus addressing a serious problem from last season. With one of Puyol, Milito and Marquez usually injured, the only back up came in the form of an ageing Lillian Thuram and a clumsy Oleguer. While the former trio will still make up the first choice defence (Milito’s injury notwithstanding), new signings Martin Caceres and Gerard Pique will provide stiff competition at the very least. The Uruguayan Caceres impressed on loan at Recreativo de Huelva from Villarreal last year, and is definitely one for the future. The signing of Pique is somewhat more mysterious. While Barca fans are always happy to see players from the cantera in the team, some are questioning the wisdom of paying money to buy back a home grown player who left for nothing, particularly when, for all his promise, he has yet to prove himself as a first team regular at a big club. He has undoubted potential though, and being back at his dream club should help him harness it. When Henrique, the Brazilian Barca have signed from Palmeiras (although he will probably be loaned out to another club this season to gain experience) is factored in, Barca’s central defensive unit looks to have a solid future.

Just as baffling as the faith shown in Victor Valdes is the retaining of Eric Abidal as Barca’s first choice left back. Consistently overshadowed by Patrice Evra, Abidal’s reputation only remained intact due to his continued selection by the frankly insane French manager, Raymond Domenech. A poor first season was followed by a dismal Euro 2008, in which his technical deficiencies were highlighted for the world to see. Abidal is atrocious going forward and unsteady at the back, and with the ageing Sylvinho as the only backup, the left side of defence is a serious liability.
While a few areas of Barca’s defence still exhibit signs of weakness, the general attitude towards improving this area shown by Guardiola and co. is an encouraging one. It is far from the finished product, but the rejuvenation of the back line should lead to a vast improvement on last season’s often dismal performances.

The midfielder, who scored 42 goals to help the Red Devils to Premier League and Champions League success, has made public his desire to join Real Madrid before the season’s beginning in August.
However, United’s position has been made clear throughout by manager Sir Alex Ferguson and club officials, with the side adamant that the Portugal international will remain at Old Trafford.

Barcelona expressed a keen desire in securing Arshavin's services following his good performances at Euro 2008; however, they ruled themselves of signing the player after having two offers rejected.
During the last few days it has been reported that Zenit are willing to lower the price tag set on Arshavin, as no club seemed interested in offering the €30 million the UEFA Cup holders were initially demanding.

Bidding For Gold In Beijing: Olympics Preview
If there was ever a summer where the football season really did never end then this is surely the one. First we had the excitement and drama of the European Championship, right now the U-19s are playing in their own Euro tournament and coming up at the start of August is arguably the second largest football event of them all at unarguably the largest sporting event in the world, the Olympics.
Group A – Ivory Coast, Argentina, Serbia and Australia.
Undoubtedly the standout team of the group and arguably of the tournament, Argentina have amassed a squad bursting with talent and potential to take the Olympics by storm this summer. Sergio Basile may well have riled a few clubs by picking players such as Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano for the tournament, but their inclusion will be sure to have fans drooling before the football even begins. With a likely strikeforce of Aguero, Messi and Diego Buonanotte, there is little doubt that should this young team excite as much on the pitch as it does on paper then gold could well be theirs.
The most likely challenge in the group will probably come from the Ivory Coast or Serbia, both of whom were in Argentina's 2006 World Cup group and both of whom include a few Premiership players in their respective squads. For the Ivorians, it is Salomon Kalou and potentially Didier Drogba and Kolo Toure who will travel out to China and for Serbia it is another Chelsea player in Branislav Ivanovic who makes the team, as well as towering Valencia striker Zigic. After a successful U21 European Championship, where they finished runners-up, the Serbians should expect to qualify from the group behind Argentina, and the key match for them will more than likely be against the Ivory Coast. In what is one of the toughest groups it seems highly unlikely that Australia will get anything from their three games, with a squad lacking any great experience at this level and with no Tim Cahill it would be surprising if they managed to grab anything more than a point.
Prediction: Argentina to win, Serbia to come second after beating the Ivory Coast.
Group B – Netherlands, Nigeria, Japan and USA.
Following a European Championship where they were heaped with praise for their attractive attacking football the spirits of the Netherlands team should be high, despite a completely new look to the squad. Out go many of the top players and in come exciting youngsters such as West Brom’s new signing Gianni Zuiverloon, Emanuelson and Canadian born Jonathan de Guzman. As the three overage players coach Foppe de Haan has decided to choose veteran striker Roy Makaay, Gerald Sibon and Kew Jailens, all of whom should help to mould a well balanced and technically brilliant team. As consecutive U21 European Championship winners they certainly hold a strong claim, and it would be no surprise to see them reach the final in China.
As far as the other group contenders go, it appears pretty even between Nigeria, USA and Japan. The Nigerians are probably slight favourites due to the fact that many of their national team play in the U23s too, adding vital experience to a squad which is devoid of many of the big names associated with Nigeria in the past. With no overage players due to injuries, Japan might struggle to get out of the group, unless coach Yasuharu Sorimachi can ensure they are disciplined enough to take points from the two weaker teams around them. Their key match could well be against the USA, a team lacking any real superstars who have been criticised in the past for their poor development at youth level. They should be keen to prove the critics wrong, but may struggle to do so.
Prediction: Netherlands to top the group with Nigeria close behind.

China may well be prepping itself for a massive medal haul as the host nation this summer, but if they manage to even get out of their group in the football it would be a huge surprise. Whilst they might manage to get a result against New Zealand, who are taking part in this event for the first time, it would be a huge surprise to see them take anything from games against Brazil and Belgium. The Belgians are renowned for their good youth system and include a lot of strong players in their squad, including highly rated defender Vincent Kompany, Anthony Vanden Borre and Tom de Mul. As if the opponents weren’t enough to contend with, the Chinese have also sacked their coach Ratomir Dujkovic just three weeks before the tournament is due to start, replacing him with Yin Tiesheng. The fortunes of the team could well come down to how well he can prepare the team for the opener against New Zealand.
For group winners, it is pretty hard to see past the Brazilians. The major surprise in their squad has been the calling up of the AC Milan bound Ronaldinho, despite the fact he has not exactly been fully fit as of late. Him aside, Dunga has chosen a squad which, much like the Argentina team, excites even on paper, with Robinho, Thiago Neves, Diego and Pato just a few of the names to look out for. The only worry for the coach must be his forwards, none of whom were in great form following the conclusion of last season, and he will be presumably be banking on the midfield to weigh in with a few goals. After a disappointing Euro 2008 a young Italian squad will be hoping to make amends in China and there is no doubt that they have the talent to do so. Ex-Italian international striker Pierluigi Casiraghi has assembled a squad which includes just one player over the age of 23 and is banking on the promising young players at his disposal coming good. Whilst that may seem wise with starlets such as Riccardo Montolivo, who was named Serie A Young Footballer of the Year in 2007, in the ranks, their lack of experience could be a flaw come the later stages. If they manage to overcome that however then they could be a real force to be reckoned with. Players like Robert Acquafresca, Lorenzo De Silvestri and Sebastian Giovinco are all very highly rated in Italy, and with Giuseppe Rossi spearheading their attack they should have little trouble winning the group and potentially going on even further.
The battle for second place is more than likely to come down to the clash between Cameroon and South Korea, with the Indomitable Lions the favourites to progress. Without Premiership midfielders Park Ji-Sung and Kim Do-Heon the Koreans do look a little weak on paper and it will be interesting to see whether their high fitness levels are enough to see them through this tricky group. Against Cameroon they will certainly need to be at their best as stars such as Samuel Eto’o and Alexandre Song will be sure to test their defensive skills. With them in the ranks and many other technically good players Cameroon should do well at this tournament and might even test the Italians when they meet. One team who aren’t expected to test the Azzurri however are Honduras who, despite qualifying ahead of Mexico, would do very well to pick up any points in this tricky final group.
Prediction: Italy to win the group followed by Cameroon.

Group A – Ivory Coast, Argentina, Serbia and Australia.
Undoubtedly the standout team of the group and arguably of the tournament, Argentina have amassed a squad bursting with talent and potential to take the Olympics by storm this summer. Sergio Basile may well have riled a few clubs by picking players such as Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano for the tournament, but their inclusion will be sure to have fans drooling before the football even begins. With a likely strikeforce of Aguero, Messi and Diego Buonanotte, there is little doubt that should this young team excite as much on the pitch as it does on paper then gold could well be theirs.
The most likely challenge in the group will probably come from the Ivory Coast or Serbia, both of whom were in Argentina's 2006 World Cup group and both of whom include a few Premiership players in their respective squads. For the Ivorians, it is Salomon Kalou and potentially Didier Drogba and Kolo Toure who will travel out to China and for Serbia it is another Chelsea player in Branislav Ivanovic who makes the team, as well as towering Valencia striker Zigic. After a successful U21 European Championship, where they finished runners-up, the Serbians should expect to qualify from the group behind Argentina, and the key match for them will more than likely be against the Ivory Coast. In what is one of the toughest groups it seems highly unlikely that Australia will get anything from their three games, with a squad lacking any great experience at this level and with no Tim Cahill it would be surprising if they managed to grab anything more than a point.
Prediction: Argentina to win, Serbia to come second after beating the Ivory Coast.
Group B – Netherlands, Nigeria, Japan and USA.
Following a European Championship where they were heaped with praise for their attractive attacking football the spirits of the Netherlands team should be high, despite a completely new look to the squad. Out go many of the top players and in come exciting youngsters such as West Brom’s new signing Gianni Zuiverloon, Emanuelson and Canadian born Jonathan de Guzman. As the three overage players coach Foppe de Haan has decided to choose veteran striker Roy Makaay, Gerald Sibon and Kew Jailens, all of whom should help to mould a well balanced and technically brilliant team. As consecutive U21 European Championship winners they certainly hold a strong claim, and it would be no surprise to see them reach the final in China.
As far as the other group contenders go, it appears pretty even between Nigeria, USA and Japan. The Nigerians are probably slight favourites due to the fact that many of their national team play in the U23s too, adding vital experience to a squad which is devoid of many of the big names associated with Nigeria in the past. With no overage players due to injuries, Japan might struggle to get out of the group, unless coach Yasuharu Sorimachi can ensure they are disciplined enough to take points from the two weaker teams around them. Their key match could well be against the USA, a team lacking any real superstars who have been criticised in the past for their poor development at youth level. They should be keen to prove the critics wrong, but may struggle to do so.

The Valencia and Spain skipper has been linked with football away from Mestalla all summer, having been considered surplus to requirements of the club and their new coach.
Emery considers that the best solution for all involved parties would be for Albelda to reach an agreement with the club about his departure after all that happened last season.
"There were unpleasant situations that still exist. The best thing for everyone would be for Albelda to leave by mutual agreement and play somewhere," Emery said.
The Valencia coach also reminded reporters that Albelda himself said the same about his situation, while stressing that he had not spoken to the player at that time.
Emery also commented on his relationship with the new chairman, Juan Villalonga, and on the alleged interest in Luis Aragonés.
"Villalonga transmitted a lot of trust. For me, it was enough that he held my hand and hugged me. Enough. And with that, I felt they are convinced that I should be where I am," he noted.
The former Almería boss also spoke of the possible signing of Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, saying: "Everyone that watches football and has followed his path at Zaragoza likes him.
"The problem is that he has a running contract with his club and he has a high release clause, but he has the quality to play at Valencia."
He also spoke about the pending arrival of a new goalkeeper.
"We are looking for a player that knows the Spanish league and speaks Spanish. If he is young and can evolve, that's interesting, if he is more experienced, it's interesting as well," he explained.
"But we also have to take into account their prices. Asenjo, Moyá, Kameni are all good custodians that could adjust our profile one way or the other."
He went on to say that the club have decided to not look for a new right-sided defender: "Alexis is a player that can play on the right flank. Valencia have a great back line and we have to adjust it so that everyone can play.

Agero Rules Out Exit
The Argentine youngster is one of this summer's hottest properties after scoring a total of 19 goals in La Liga, finishing as the league's third best goal-scorer and grabbing the Antonio Puerta award for best player.
Agüero's representative stated last week that Agüero was being followed by a Premier League giant that wasn't Chelsea, which led to speculation about interest from Manchester United in his services.
The Red Devils have been in the market all summer for a striking option, with rumours suggesting Alex Ferguson to have identified Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov and Agüero as his main priorities.
But the Atlético Madrid star has now apparently told the Scottish tactician he will have to choose Berbatov after claiming to be more than happy with life at Vicente Calderón.
"I want to continue at Atlético for several seasons more. I do not want to leave the club. Much has been said about offers for my transfer to other clubs, but I have told my representative that I want to continue where I am," he claimed.
Agüero stressed that "money changes nothing" when quizzed on a possible move to England, explaining that he is "very comfortable" in Spain.
"I am happy, I do not miss anything, I am treated very well at the club, I feel comfortable," he continued. "There is no reason to leave. I will stay at Atlético de Madrid one, two seasons more, the ones that are necessary."
The striker further added that he will immediately join Javier Aguirre's squad after the Olympic Games are over.

Milan transfer guru Adriano Galliani has been criticised heavily over the past few years for failing to adequately reinforce the club’s first team squad. This summer Galliani had been doing much better. Mathieu Flamini is still the signing of the summer so far, while two Italy internationals in Gianluca Zambrotta and Marco Borriello have also arrived.
The signing of Ronaldinho though has certainly divided opinion, with a number of serious question marks hanging over the Brazilian:
1) Is Ronaldinho still the same player he was?
In 2004 and 2005 Ronaldinho was undisputedly the best player in the world, and indeed for a while he was on another planet to those around him, winning successive FIFA World Player of the Year Awards, as well as the Ballon d’Or. Who can forget that unstoppable individual performance against Real Madrid, when he earned a standing ovation from the Bernabeu crowd? Or what about that magical, outside of the foot goal against Chelsea in the Champions League?
However, since the 2006 World Cup he has clearly been in decline, and indeed last season was the worst of his entire career, as he struggled with weight, form and fitness, barely playing for large chunks of the season. Recently nicknamed ‘Gordinho’, Ronnie is clearly overweight and out of shape. He is only 28, and in theory should be at his peak, but will he ever rediscover his best form, or has he already burnt out? This is the huge gamble that Milan are taking.
2) Did Milan really need Ronaldinho?
Ever since Andriy Shevchenko left in 2006, Milan have seemingly been crying out for a top class first striker. The fact that the club have been chasing Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Adebayor this summer seems to suggest that they don’t have much trust in Marco Borriello. Many people believe it would have been far more beneficial for the club to spend big on a lethal frontman, who not only will score goals, but will complete the offensive jigsaw. Milan are already blessed with a host of brilliant trequartistas - did they really need another one?
3) Where will Ronaldinho fit in?
This brings me on nicely to my next point about just how Milan will accommodate Ronaldinho into the starting XI? Kaka, Seedorf, Pato, Pirlo, Gattuso, Flamini, Ambrosini will not all be able to share the same team with the Brazilian. Squad rotation is a possibility, but these are big egos we are talking about, and players are not going to be happy to sit around on the bench for an extended period. The forever outspoken Seedorf has publicly opposed Ronaldinho’s transfer, and has warned him that he will neither give up his No.10 shirt, nor be forced to play in a deeper role. Something certainly has to give because there is no chance Kaka will be left out of the team. The Seedorf-Ronaldinho fuse has already been lit.
4) Can Ronaldinho & Kaka Play Together?
I wrote a debate on this topic a few months ago so I won’t over-elaborate, but the truth is that the two Selecao stars have never looked comfortable playing together. The prime example was the 2006 World Cup when both continuously got in each other’s way, failed to combine, and as a result there was just no attacking fluency to Brazil’s play. In many people’s eyes it was the inability of the pair to play together that was the key reason for the country’s disappointing tournament. Sometimes players can be just too similar to co-exist, just think of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard for England, or for an older example, Gianni Rivera and Sandro Mazzola for Italy.
5) Was Ronaldinho just bought for commercial reasons?
It is no secret that Milan, as with most Italian teams, have not been at their strongest financially in recent years. Many cynics will say that Ronaldinho, being such a huge commercial asset, will help the club move out of the red and into the black. When Real Madrid signed David Beckham from Manchester United in 2003, they signed him not for his footballing ability, but for the money they could make from him. Forbes magazine revealed how he contributed to the club’s huge increase in merchandise sales, a total of more than $600 million during Beckham's four years at the club. However, Madrid’s success on the pitch during this time was not so grand, and indeed they won just one, extremely fortuitous La Liga title in 2007, which was virtually handed to them on a plate by Barcelona.
