Giralt Ups The Ante Ahead of "Liar" Laporta's Vote

Oriol spearheaded the "censure movement" that ultimately saw enough signatures gathered to force a vote of confidence against Laporta via petition.

With just three days remaining before the fateful ballot, Oriol clearly feels that it is time to renew his offensive.

The censure leader was speaking in response to Laporta's latest statement to the effect that Sandro Rosell, a former vice-president and would-be president, was secretly behind the whole movement.

Giralt replied, "Laporta has made lying a symbol. I have no doubt that his appearance yesterday hurt him a lot. He insists that there's a plot, but perhaps he already knows that the vote is likely to go against him, hence he's spoken like this. I regret that he has to lie like this.

"The president of the club lied twice last night. Firstly he stated that a 'board manager' (should the board lose the censure vote on Sunday) cannot buy players. That is an atrocity - the board manager can perform ordinary activities.

"The second lie? ... the allegations that there is a plot led by Sandro and that I'm a straw man. We met - that's the evidence!

"The club cannot continue in this way."

What he did admit was that there will be no second try if the vote of confidence goes in the current board's failure.

"If the board surpasses the motion then we must give our full support," he said.

"From the day after the referendum the board must be protected because this motion will bring peace to the socios of the club."
