Rojiblanco president Enrique Cerezo added, "Coupet is a player worthy of admiration due to his experience, character and maturity.

"I’m sure that he’s going to be a great teacher to our keepers both on and off the pitch; he’s going to be a role model and a reference point. He’s a guarantee for the return of Atlético to the maximum continental competition.

"Currently, he’s the indisputable starter of the France national team, and he’s also considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. Last year he was chosen be the French magazine Onze Mundial as the best netminder.

"He is, without a doubt, a team player and has an extraordinary track record, as he’s a 7-time French League champion, 6-time Supercup champ, and has won one Cup. In short, he’s won everything in his country.

"Coupet has a new challenge before him that we’re sure he will fulfill successfully. His contribution is going to be very important, as a man with the experience that he has will be fundamental for our team.

"He has great skill as a player, he’s consistent, demanding of himself and has a great will to continue improving."
