The UEFA Cup champions know that it will be almost impossible for them to keep Andrei Arshavin in their ranks, given his world-class displays against Sweden and the Netherlands at Euro 2008.
With Barcelona willing to splash the cash on Arshavin, Zenit are now in the market for a quality substitute for the 27-year-old.
Danny, 24, has enjoyed immediate success at Dynamo Moscow since he moved from Sporting CP in 2005, and his performances led to interest from the Zenit coach, Dick Advocaat.
It is believed that Zenit have launched a bid of 12,5 million euros for the Portuguese midfielder, who is relishing the prospect of a bigger challenge in his career.
"Representing Zenit would be a big step forward in my career. Zenit are the team that play the most spectacular football in Russia and only a few players would not like to wear the shirt of this great club," Danny said.
"However, if my exit does not happen, I will continue defending Dynamo as committed as always."
