Morientes: We Are Emery's Family

Despite being linked with a move away from the side this summer, Morientes seemed pleased enough with pre-season with Los Che.

"There's good cheer between players and the coaching staff," he said from Valencia's training base in Ermelo, Holland.

"The coach and coaching staff are reminiscent of a family.

"We've adjusted well and there's good cheer evidence with the players. Everyone sees it, and it's palpable.

"I think this is a factor in beginning the season well.

"We're here in Holland to work and tune up our bodies - that's what pre-seaosn is for."

Benefits

To this end he praised those who have returned to the side in high spirits, including last season's loan outcasts of Asier Del Horno and Manuel Fernandes.

"Everyone is looking to benefit Valencia and be good for the institution, offering it stability," he said.

Looking back on the "bad streak" of last season, Morientes stated that his aim was to erase these by "playing many matches and helping Valencia."

The 32-year-old forward arrived at the Mestalla in 2005 after an ill-fated 18 months at Liverpool.
