Official: Aragones To Fenerbahce

Saraçoğlu chiefs were forced to wait a little longer to secure their man, but finally Fenerbahce have unveiled veteran boss Luis Aragones as their new boss on Saturday. He succeeds Brazilian Zico, who left at the end of last season.

Aragones will turn 70-years-old later this month and his coaching career has spanned some 34 years. Strangely, though, the opinionated gaffer has never managed a club outside of Spain. He's been at the helm of Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla and Atlético Madrid, to name a few, and spent four good years with La Selección, but Turkey presents a new challenge.

The boss, widely slammed in his early days as boss of La Roja for making controversial comments about Thierry henry, leaves Spain on top of both Europe and the world as beating Germany in the final of Euro 2008 has sent the nation to the top of the new FIFA rankings.

After finalising a previously agreed two-year contract, Aragones said: "I am here both with my brain and heart to work for Fenerbahce.

"I know I have come to a good and strong team. I can tell you that I am very happy to be here.

"The stadium is absolutely great and I'm sure that the atmosphere will be even more fantastic when the fans come.

"However, I like to keep things calm. This season we want to win every possible title."

Galatasaray beat the Sarı Kanaryalar to the Super League title last season, levelling Fenerbahce's record of 17 Turkish titles.

However, the wily campaigner led Spain to their first major honours in 44 years last weekend and will be brimming with confidence.
