Players' Strike Threatens Primera Start

The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) and Professional Football League (LFP) are at loggerheads over the Insolvency Act, which at present does not guarantee a wage fund to help players whose clubs are unable to pay them.

Levante are the most recent side to have gone months without issuing wages to their staff, and this almost resulted in a localised strike by the Valencian club. The players, though, called it off and completed the season.

In recent years Celta Vigo, Sporting, Alavés, Las Palmas, Malaga, and Real Sociedad have also fallen foul of the bankers.

In any case the AFE have set a deadline of July 5th to find a resolution, otherwise they will consider strike action.
