Portsmouth To Snap Up Javier Saviola From Real Madrid?

The Sun reports that Javier Saviola, the Real Madrid forward, could be headed for Portsmouthand the Premier League on-loan until the end of the season.

The Argentineinternationalhas made no impression of any sort with los Blancos, having made just 16 appearancessince his free transfer from Barcelona in 2007.

Now, with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar newly arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu, thechances of Saviolastaying putbeyond the end of the current campaign look increasingly slim.

Madrid reportedly offered the 27-year-old to Wigan Athletic in a part player-exchange deal for Luis Antonio Valencia, but nothing ever came of that proposal.

Everton have been linked with the former River Plate sensation, but now Pompey - now without Jermain Defoe after his return to Tottenham Hotspur - appear to be leading the chase.

A small, quick, sharp-shooting striker, Saviola could be an ideal partner for Peter Crouch.
