Gregory Coupét would like to see his former Olympique Lyonnais team-mate Fred join him in Spain with Atlético de Madrid after reports suggested that a deal was in the offing.
The French international goalkeeper believes that the Brazilian forward would be a success in la Primera due to his technical ability and his eye for a goal.
Fred's contract expires at Lyon in the summer and Atlético were reportedly hoping to pin him down to a pre-contract agreement and have him join them in the summer for free. Coupét for one would like to see that happen.
"He is a great player. He is strong, tall and skillful. He can also score goals," the custodian explained.
"I am sure that he would do very well in the Spanish league because he has great ball control, he knows how to hold up the play and is very technical."
Fred's personality and temperament have been called into question during his time in France, but Coupét does not think that the forward is a trouble-maker.
"We were friends when I was at Lyon," he added.
Coupét believes that Fred could leave Lyon in January if he were to return to his homeland, but he is unsure what would happen if a European club moved for him.
"I understood that Lyon would let him leave them if he was going back to Brazil, but I do not know about if they would let him join Atlético," he said.
