Gonzalo Higuaín Opens Real Madrid Door For Sergio Agüero

Gonzalo Higuaín has declared today that he would be delighted if his fellow Argentina, Sergio Agüero, moved across town to join Real Madrid.

Agüero, who currently plays for Atlético Madrid, has stated in the past that he would never play for los Blancos due to their rivalry with Atleti, while rumours have surfaced lately that he is wanted by Inter Milan.

With Atlético slipping down the table and 'Kun' reacting angrily after their draw with Almería last weekend, all does not seem great in the red-and-white half of Madrid, and Higuaín has not been slow to divulge his thoughts.

"For him to go to Inter would be his choice...Here? Real Madrid always wants big players, and he is one of those; I would be delighted [if Agüero joined]," he told Marca .

Real Madrid have plenty of concerns on their own, both on the field and in the boardroom.

With elections planned for the summer and Madrid trailing Barcelona by 12 points in La Liga, Higuaín acknowledged that it will be hard to catch their great rivals, but he refuses to give up hope.

"It is difficult, but not impossible, it has been proven many times that it can be done, and whilst there is a chance, we will fight for it," he declared. "We need to continue winning and waiting for them to lose, at some time they will have a dip and we will be there to trim the gap.

"If they continue at this level and do not fall, it will be very difficult, but I believe they will have a slump, and we should concentrate on not losing points because we are the champions and must fight on."

One thing that has been impressive with Real Madrid lately is the few goals they have conceded, leading Higuaín to pyd tribute to the solidarity of the team.

"Defensively we are good, but also in attack too, we are being solid. The other day was tough, but we should be relaxed and to continue our winning ways against Deportivo La Coruña," he stated.

The Argentine spoke briefly about the boardroom drama, but admitted that is not for the players to worry about, and said that even with talk of big signings in the press, they just need to focus on winning.

Higuaín was also questioned about the penalties not awarded to Osasuna last weekend, and said he does not like to talk about officials, before citing times when he should have had a penalty.

One topic he did discuss was the upcoming Champions League game with Liverpool, and he said how he would love to score.

"It is a very good game to play, and if I have the chance, I will give it my all, because it would be great to score in the Champions League. The team is very focused, with great desire to win the tenth [Champions League title]; if we beat Liverpool we will have a lot more morale for the next round," he concluded.
