Rafa Benitez Hails Returning Liverpool Stars

After another disappointing draw for Liverpool this week, manager Rafa Benitez is doing his best to stay positive, and feels that there was some good news for the Reds on Wednesday, despite the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic.

Benitez is pleased that three key players made returns from injury, and feels that they all have big parts to play as Liverpool endeavour to end their long wait for a league title.

"We have some good options now," Benitez told The Liverpool Echo today. We have Skrtel and Mascherano, who have been much better, Agger who is fit again and Torres who is coming back.

"These are good options for us because they are good players who can play at a very good level, and if they are fit we will have a strong squad for the rest of the season.

"Skrtel was a very nice surprise for us because in only his second game back against Everton he was playing at the same level as he was before."

The return to fitness of Argentina's captain Mascherano was highlighted as being of particular significance by Benitez. The midfielder has so far struggled to hit his usual heights this season after returning from the Olympic Games looking jaded.

"Mascherano has shown in every training session that he has commitment, passion and is a good worker. Now, if he is feeling better, it will be a good addition for us," the Spaniard added, before pointing out what the Reds' central aim for the rest of the campiagn was:

"We would like to start winning right now."
