Robert Pires has declared today that he is not in a rush to renew his contract with Villarreal, even though it expires this summer.
The former Arsenal man told Marca that with everything going on at the club at the moment, he understands why they have not been in touch with him yet, but says he does want to stay.
"The truth is that I understand it all, and I am not in a hurry," he mused.
"The situation does not worry me. I understand the club, and even more so in a month like this, when things are happening such as the sale of Edmilson, talk of [Fabricio] Fuentes, and the possibility of making new signings."
Pires has looked impressive at Villarreal since joining from Arsenal, but so far this season he has not been able to hold down a first-team spot.
Nevertheless, he says that he has already spoken about it with Manuel Pellegrini, and knows why he is being rested.
"It is a very long season, and for now I need to rest," he began.
"I have already spoken about it with the coach. I know that now the time is here to rest, and to prepare for the second-half of the season."
Villarreal take on Osasuna this weekend, who were unlucky to lose to Real Madrid in their last match, and Pires considers them a dangerous side.
"It will not be easy to win because teams come to defend, to limit our options, and to make it difficult," he concluded.
