Villarreal are a team in trouble at the moment and, according to their Uruguayan midfielder, Sebastián Eguren, they need to starting making things happen themselves.
The summer signing told AS that his side have to stop waiting for a reaction, and instead, need to lead from the front.
"What we cannot do is wait to be slapped each game until we react," he boomed. "We have to strike first and then continue our rhythm; we should be the protagonists, and if we aren't then things will go badly.
"We have shown that we can play well and our recent form should help us to play well again, we just need to get back on track."
However, Villarreal have struggled to pick up decent results lately, and this weekend it doesn't get any easier as they take on Valencia in the derby match.
Eguren knows that it will be a tough encounter, but recognises the importance of the clash for his side.
"It is a match against one of those above us so we need to win this kind of game, besides, it is also a derby," he stated. "To add three points in this match is very important, since we have now gone three matches without doing so."
"Valencia are doing things well in the league though, and they have just played a good match. Due to that they will probably be thinking about continuing their form and not about last year."
The one plus point for Villarreal is that Valencia have to compete in the Copa Del Rey this week, and Eguren says he believes this could "reduce their options."
The midfielder also spoke about the aims for the team this season and, surprisingly, is not too concerned that they are out of the top six at the present time.
"Early on we were very near the top and it would have been good to still be there now and remain so until the end of the season," he said. "What is most important though, is to be up at the end of the season, although it is better to stay there, since we think each day that it is important not to let the distance widen."
