Marchena Set For First Start Of The Season

Valencia are the form team in Spain at the moment and it looks as though Unai Emery wants to keep it that way as he changes his side around for their UEFA Cup match with Portuguese side Maritimo this evening.

In Madeira the Spaniards won by a lone goal to nil scored by Fernando Morientes but the experienced striker has been left out of the squad for the return leg along with Timo Hildebrand and Alexis.

Whilst those decisions are technical the manager will also be without Rubén Baraja, David Silva, Curro Torres, Nikola Zigic and Edu due to injuries.

The main man coming into the side is Spain international Carlos Marchena who, if he starts, will be doing so for the first time this season after recovering from injury. Along with the defender Emery has also recalled two players whom he hasn't utilised much out of choice in Hedwiges Maduro and Hugo Viana.
