It seems like only yesterday that Luis Aragonés was been tossed in the air as Spain won the European Championships but since that day a lot has changed, mainly for the worse.
The former Atlético Madrid coach made a surprise move to Fenerbahce in the summer after the success and since then he has seen his stock fall as the Turkish side have lost game after game.
Indeed, following a 4-1 mauling by Kayserispor at home yesterday the club sit twelfth in the league and have lost four of their six matches domestically. Speaking today though Aragonés said he will not be stepping down as manager.
"To lose 4-1 is a bad result but I will not be resigning," he declared, "I am here to do what I know to do well and I do not think about resignation."
The coach though is coming under increasing pressure from fans, who chanting former coach Zico's name at the game this weekend, and also those in the media such as ex-player Ridvan rio Dilmen who wrote, "It is not possible to play with this team...The squad is demoralised, the fans are demoralised, in games the players pray that the end arrive and it goes on."
Fenerbahce have a two-week break before their next match against Kocaelispor due to the international matches and Aragonés will be hoping his team can bounce back strongly.
