The Enschede side meet Racing Santander in their first group match of the UEFA Cup and boss McClaren has underlined the importance of the match. The former England boss thinks Twente need six points in order to proceed to the next round.
"I'm pretty sure that six points is enough to qualify for the next round. Therefore, we need to win our two home fixtures. Four or five points might even seal the deal, too. We've the advantage that we start our campaign with a home match, so I want to grab the full three points," started McClaren.
"It's crucial to stay focused in European matches, even more than in Eredivisie games. Racing Santander is a different team than Rennes, they really have some technically gifted players. We need to convert the few chances we get," continued the former England boss.
"I don't care that they're struggling domestically. The Spanish league is one of the best leagues in the world. Additionally, Santander have the qualities to beat any team. It's necessary for us to stay focused for the full 90 minutes."
"We're full of confidence after our Eredivisie win against Heracles. The lads handled the pressure of playing a regional derby very good. We kept our patience and grabbed the win in the last fifteen minutes of the game," concluded the ex-England manager.
