Renan Believes In Valencia Success

It might be just over a month into the season but Valencia look a side destined for good things this year as they aim to bounce back from their mediocre showing last time out.

Los Che finished in mid-table and were very inconsistent but so far they have looked a changed outfit and one of the main changes has been between the stick, where Renan Brito has taken the gloves full time. The Brazilian joined in the summer from Internacional and already he says he thinks Valencia can do something big this year.

"The truth is that I have had a great start at Valencia and I am very happy for everything that has happened, most importantly the fact that we are up in in the league and also in the UEFA cup."

"The team is always working to improve and I believe we can something large this season. The only problem is that it is not just our target to win titles this year, others teams want them too," he mused.

Indeed, Valencia currently lead the way in Spain where they are top of the league and have shown no signs of the trouble that ravaged the club last year. Renan says he is especially pleased with the fact that at times they have not played well but have still got results.

"The group works and is happy because things go well, at times we might not play well but still win," he said, "Nevertheless, we know that someday it could go wrong and we won't be able to change that, but the aim is to have more victories than defeats."

Whilst Renan has been a first team fixture though he has not always been totally reliable and has let in some rather unnecessary goals at times. Speaking today he said he has his defence to thank for a lot of the clean sheets.

"Security is transmitted through speaking and calmness, as much as when you stop an easy shot as a difficult one. A goalkeeper depends a lot on the defence and I am fortunate because they are very good and have a lot of quality, like the rest of the team," said the Brazilian.

Since joining Valencia this summer Renan has started all but a few games and one man who has been frustrated by his signing has been Timo Hildebrand. The German was supposed to be number one this year but has found himself not just out of the team but also the squad. His replacement was very coy on the subject though and said he is just glad everyone is there to play.

"The coach knows how to extract the best from players and has the mentality so that they all wait and are prepared to play. That is the great thing; that we all work for the team," he concluded.
