While Cani enjoyed 32 of 38 Liga appearances last season, only 14 of those matches saw him start, and on just ten occasions did he play the full 90 minutes.
This season he's prepared for more of the same after another summer of strengthening at Vila-Real.
"To start games will be very complicated this season," he said.
"It was thus last season, yet this time it will be even moreso."
However, his team's ability to qualify for the Champions League this season has given him a chance of rotation into the side.
"As we're present in three competitions, it could be that there are minutes for everyone," reasoned the former Zaragoza man.
"The important thing is to be in a position to take advantage of such situations, and to show the coach that they can count on you."
Looking back at his side's 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Matchday 1, in which he did not take part, Cani concluded, "We started well... we didn't win in Pamplona, but we were the better side, and above all we showed a different side of us to what we had in pre-season."
