Villa completes Barca move

Villa completes Barca move

David Villa has completed his move from Valencia to Barcelona after signing a four-year contract at Camp Nou.

The Spain striker comfortably passed a medical on Friday morning and has now put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at Barcelona until 2014, with an option for an additional 12 months.

Debt-ridden Valencia are believed to have received €40million (Ј35m) for Villa, who is also now secured at Barcelona by a buyout clause of €200m (Ј174m).

A statement on Barcelona's official website read: "David Villa is now officially the first signing for 2010/11.

"He signed the contract that will keep him at the club for the next four seasons with an option for another."

Value

Villa has also expressed his delighted at tying up a deal and hopes to play a major role in any future success the club may achieve.

He said: "I hope that all Barcelona fans will be happy with my performances, I am sure that will be the case.

"I have come to a club that has won everything in recent years, so I will add my little bit to make the club better than it is now and continue that run of success.

"It is already the best team and club in the world."

Villa's arrival casts doubt over the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Barcelona are now expected to focus their attention on Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Quality

Barca remain adamant, though, that Swedish striker Ibrahimovic is not for sale and hope he can form a devastating partnership with their latest big-money acquisition.

"The season is very long and challenging and we have many quality strikers," said technical secretary Txiki Begiristain.

"Just because Villa comes does not mean Ibra will have to go.

"Ibrahimovic had a spectacular season for three-quarters of it and his future has not been discussed.

"There is no doubt that Ibra will be happy (with Villa's arrival) because it's always good to have competition and he wants the same as Villa which is to win titles."
