Blackburn Rovers are targeting Sporting Gijon left-back Roberto Canella, according to reports in Spain.
The 22-year-old defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and is valued at €12million.
Sporting, who are not yet clear of relegation from La Liga this season, are experiencing financial problems and may opt to cash in on the Spain Under-21 international, whose contract is set to expire next summer.
Rovers scout Martin Glover was reportedly in the stands for the game against Valladolid last month and is thought to have been impressed by Canella.
"We know about this interest but Blackburn have not officially spoken to us," a Gijon spokesman said.
"This subject is over until the end of the season. If we receive an offer it is normal to consider it."
Real Madrid were rumoured to be interested in the player last summer while Aston Villa have also been linked with the promising youngster.
On the Blackburn interest, Canella remarked: "I see the rumours but I want to focus on my work and not suffer any distractions."
