Mourinho can work with Ron

Jose Mourinho claims he is looking forward to the prospect of working with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese pair have not always seen eye-to-eye down the years, with Mourinho questioning Ronaldo's upbringing in the past.

The former World Player of the Year responded with some less than complimentary remarks about the outspoken coach, putting further strain on their relationship.

In a twist of fate, it now appears as though the two will be united at Real, with Mourinho expected to be appointed as the new boss at Santiago Bernabeu in the next few days.

Upon taking the reins, one of his first tasks will be to build bridges with his star turn, ensuring there is no ill-feeling lingering around the club.

Ronaldo has recently commented that he has no problem with Mourinho and would be happy to work with him, while the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss has also relaxed his stance.

Mourinho insists he is excited by the challenge of managing some of the greatest names in world football and is confident he can help to bring the best out of Ronaldo.

"Ronaldo is a very easy footballer to work with," he told Marca .

"Any coach would be happy to have him in his team."

Mourinho has also called for Ronaldo to be given more freedom in which to go about his work, with it difficult for any player to perform at the very top of their game when their every move is dissected in minute detail.

"He is a phenomenon and should be left alone," added Mourinho.

"I do not understand the attacks on his personal life just because he is a star.

"For me he is a player with ability that is out of this world, but he must win more titles if he is to be considered one of the best like (Alfredo) Di Stefano, (Diego) Maradona or Pele."
