Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola celebrated the seventh trophy of his tenure at Camp Nou but still felt compelled to apologise to the club's fans.
Barca held off the challenge of Real Madrid to retain their Primera Division crown with a crushing 4-0 home victory which relegated Javier Clemente's Valladolid.
It was the Catalan club's fourth title in six seasons and was secured with a record total of 99 points, four more than their bitter rivals.
Guardiola led the celebrations with his players on the pitch after the match, but the Barca coach still laments the one that got away - next weekend's UEFA Champions League final at Madrid's Bernabeu stadium.
"I want to say thank you to the fans," he said.
Owe you"You have been great and we owe you one - we should be in Madrid next weekend and we owe you one for that."
Amid the celebrations, Guardiola also took time to praise his players and outgoing club president Joan Laporta.
"These players are unrepeatable," he said. "And I want to thank the president for these seven years."
Laporta, meanwhile, said he will leave the club with their best ever side.
"Barca is in the best moment ever," he said. "The club is a model of reference - the effort, the hard work, the players, the coaches and the employees have done a magnificent job."
The best
Barca have won an incredible 12 trophies in Laporta's seven years at the club, but the president believes success can continue in the future.
"Of course it can be repeated - this is the greatest Barca in history," he said.
For captain Carles Puyol, the title was just rewards for another fine season.
"We were the best," he said.
"Real (Madrid) had a great season and made life tough for us but we fought hard to win this title with a huge points tally.
"It is really nice to celebrate this title in front of our fans. We have had some difficult moments and they really helped us get through them."
