Mijatovic Defends Robinho Sale

Robinho last week stated his desire to leave the Bernabéu in favour of Chelsea, but he was told in no uncertain terms by Mijatovic and president Ramón Calderón that he would not be allowed to depart unless he bought out his contract.

But with just an hour of the transfer window left to go, Madrid accepted a bid from England - not from Chelsea, but from Manchester City. The player hastily agreed terms and thus left the Spanish capital.

Mijatovic explained his side's about-face today: "Real Madrid transferred Robson de Souza ‘Robinho’ to Manchester City last night, firmly believing it is the best way to solve the current situation."

What's more, he stated that coach Bernd Schuster was right behind the move.

"I support and approve of Schuster’s decision to sign off on the transfer of Robinho, who’s attitude made it evident that he was no longer professionally involved with the group," he said.

"Lastly, I wish Robinho the best of luck in future endeavors."
