Valladolid might well have downed mighty Atlético Madrid at the José Zorilla this season but that victory aside they have been far from impressive.
José Luis Mendilibar's side have just the three points to show from their opening three games and midfielder Fabián Canobbio says that despite his happiness at debuting in the defeat to Athletic Bilbao he was dissappointed with the result.
"I was very happy to play some minutes and to begin to get into the side, but the game itself was not good and I believe we lost some good form given that we didn't play very well. Bilbao did not do more than us but they deserved to win," he mused.
Canobbio joined Valladolid this summer after a four year spell at Celta Vigo, where he scored 22 goals in 104 appearances, and he says he needs to regain both his confidence and his competitive edge after the move.
"I am feeling better as the weeks and the training goes by," he said, "Now I have to win confidence and compete, that is not the same as just training and it is what I lack."
The next chance for the midfielder to get some minutes will be against high flying Almería on Thursday night, although he knows it will be a tough match.
"They are a strong team who play good football and have very good dynamics of play. Last season they did great and they have started well this year, it will be an important game and one we will have to work hard to win," he concluded.
