Zé Castro: I Won't Give Up To Colotto

Zé Castro arrived on loan from Atlético Madrid earlier in the summer, only to find Colotto join him as a new signing on deadline day.

However, the Portuguese was adamant that his new Argentine teammate will not waltz straight into Miguel Angel Lotina's starting XI.

"Of course he has to win his place," growled the 25-year-old.

"Is a signing always certain to play? No - not Cristiano Ronaldo, not Ronaldinho, nor anyone else. If you don't work, you don't play. You can be a great footballer but if you play you need to be in the absolute best condition."

The centre-back noted that there were indeed a huge list of centre-backs at the club, even for a side that plays three in the middle, but that he was not worried about the competition.

"If the coach has two, three, four or five defenders it's a challenge for him," he said.

"Everyone has to do their job as best they can. Everyone wants to play and I'm no different.

"Yet it's not a concern to me. There's always competition. It's the Spanish Liga - it must always be this way."

Reflecting on his side's win over Real Madrid, the ex-Académica man concluded, ""I feel great - the squad is good and everything's easy. In the match I felt great because we won in the end. If we lose it's bad, every time - if we win I'm very happy.

"There's no euphoria, though, because that game didn't win us anything. But we did what we had to do in the UEFA Cup and then we beat Real Madrid, a great team. That gave us confidence, but there are 37 games to go and we still have to get to the UEFA Cup group stages, too."
