La Liga Team Of The Week: Round 3

Formation: 4 -3-2-1

Goalkeeper

Miguel Moya – (Real Mallorca)
Chiefly responsible for the islanders’ clean sheet in the Riazor, making a host of saves as Depor piled the pressure on. A few clubs showed some interest in the summer but never made a concrete move. If Moya keeps perfoming this way that could change very quickly.

Defenders

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
Excellent in both attack and defence in Santander, showing bucket loads of energy and desire going forward, making the opposing left winger and left back think twice at every juncture.

Juanito (Real Betis)
At the heart of a defence that kept the heralded Sevilla forward line pretty quiet, and went so close to grabbing the vital goal, only for the post to deny the Beticos for the second time in the match.

Carles Puyol (Barcelona)
Commanding performance from the Barca icon who kept last week’s hat trick hero Mate Bilic quiet. Barca were at last excellent in Gijon, but Puyol’s form has been solid throughout.

Giourkas Seitaridis (Atletico Madrid)
Bounding up and down the right hand side all evening (he's in at left back here, where he can play at a push), the Greek caused Recre all kinds of problems, as well as coping well defensively.

Midfield

Maniche (Atletico Madrid)
Outstanding performance from the former Porto man, who was at his archetypal best in aiding the destruction of Recre. The classic box-to-box display, he was absolutely everywhere and netted with an excellent strike.

Xavi (Barcelona)
What a season it seems this guy is set to have. Off the back of a simply superb Euros, Xavi dictated every incision of the Gijon dissection with typical ease.

Ruben De La Red (Real Madrid)
Eye-catching display from a player who’s game is so easy on the eye. This weekend though, he showed a different side to his game in a defensive capacity, and slotted in seamlessly. He could be an important player with Sneijder, and now Gago and Guti all out of contention.

Wingers

Santi Cazorla (Villarreal)
Gets in the best eleven again with another key contribution from the international winger, who got Villarreal all the points in round two. Has and will continue to prove such an important figure for Los Submarino Amarillo this season, proving a crucial supplier of goals already this season with Nihat and Rossi injured.

Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)
Outstanding from the pint sized box of tricks. Scored one and set-up another as probably the Blaugrana’s best player on a night of some great individual performances.

Strikers

Florent Sinama-Pongolle (Atletico Madrid)
All Atletico fans will be pleasantly surprised with the impact the Frenchman has made, and he will be very important if Los Colchoneros are to have a reasonable season across the domestic and European board. Forlan is already injured, but it seems Aguirre can rest easy if he wants to rest one of his front two in future, knowing a quality alternative in Sinama is on hand.
