Mosquera Sprains Ankle

The seventeen-time capped Colombian international discovered this morning that, although there are no broken bones as was first feared, he has however sustained a level two sprain which will see him miss crucial matches both in La Liga and the UEFA cup.

The incident occurred in Sevilla’s 2-0 victory over Espanyol on Wednesday night, after a clash with an opposing defender that left the big defender unable to continue.

The 27 year-old have been trying to establish himself as a regular first-team player, and with the injury expected to keep him sidelined until the end of next month, it will set back his progress considerably.

Sevilla, who have made a steady start to the new campaign, have some difficult away fixtures in the coming weeks including trips to Atlectico Madrid, and Salzburg in their decisive second leg match in the UEFA cup.

Mosquera is unlikely to return before their home match against Malaga on the 26th of October, leaving boss Manolo Jiminez short of options defensively.
