Rafael van der Vaart has admitted his Real Madrid future is uncertain but says it is 'too early' to return to Ajax.
The Dutch playmaker started his career with the Amsterdam club before moving to Hamburg in 2005 and then Real Madrid last summer.
Van der Vaart has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent months and has been tipped to leave Real in the January transfer window.
He has hinted that he would consider a winter switch but has played down the chances of going back to Ajax at the current time.
"In principle I find it too early (to return) and I say no," Van der Vaart told De Telegraaf .
"I do not know if I will stay at Real Madrid, but there are other options."
Ajax manager Martin Jol would like Van der Vaart to reconsider, saying the 26-year-old's arrival would significantly strengthen his squad.
"I hope he comes," Jol told Sport1 . "With him we would have the best midfield in Holland."
