Copa del Rey round-up

Copa del Rey round-up

Athletic Bilbao were knocked out by Rayo Vallecano as Getafe, Real Mallorca and Racing Santander advanced to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Racing Santander trailed 1-0 from their first leg against second division outfit Salamanca, while a run of poor results had also prompted the dismissal of coach Juan Carlos Mandia earlier this week.

However, Racing returned to form in style as a Mohammed Tchite hat-trick inspired them to a 4-1 victory at home.

Salamanca had extended their aggregate lead thanks to Perico's early opener before Tchite struck a quickfire treble, which included a penalty.

Xisco then netted a fourth to secure Santander's progress to the next round.

Athletic Bilbao could not overturn a 2-0 deficit from their first leg against Rayo Vallecano, going down 4-2 on aggregate following a 2-2 draw at San Mames.

Fernando Llorente (41) put the Basque outfit ahead before Angel Martinez (73) levelled on the night.

Javi Martinez (74) restored the lead immediately only for Edu Albacar to steal in and equalise again three minutes later.

Getafe moved safely through as a 1-1 draw at Espanyol secured a 3-1 aggregate success.

The Madrid outfit made life easier for themselves as Roberto Soldado made it 3-0 on aggregate in the 20th minute tonight.

And while Ivan Alonso equalised 16 minutes later, Espanyol could not produce the two further goals needed to keep themselves in the cup.

Alhassane Keita's solitary strike helped Real Mallorca squeeze through as a 1-0 win at home to Real Valladolid earned them an away-goals win as it finished 2-2 overall.
