Preciado pens new deal

Preciado pens new deal

Sporting Gijon have rewarded head coach Manuel Preciado with a new two-year contract.

Sporting have made a bright start to the 2009/10 campaign and currently sit seventh in the Primera Liga standings.

They have gone unbeaten through their last six fixtures and will now be setting their sights on securing European qualification for next term.

Much of their success has been put down to the fine leadership skills of the experienced Preciado.

He has been in charge at El Molinon since 2006 and will become the club's longest serving manager if he sees out his latest deal.

Initial reports suggested only a one-year extension would be tabled, with the option of a second year depending on results.

Optimism

However, Preciado's fine work has led the club to offer a longer deal at this juncture.

President Manuel Vega Arango is delighted to have reached an agreement with his highly-rated manager and hopes Sporting will continue to progress in the future.

"Preciado has brought optimism to the club," he said in Marca .

"I am grateful for the fine work he has done during the time he has spent with us.

"Things have moved slowly, but always forward, and things keep on getting better."
