Costa earns new contract

Atletico Madrid have rewarded promising playmaker Diego Costa with an extension to his current contract.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a competitive appearance for the capital giants, with his experience to date gained during a number of loan spells.

Having taken in stints at Sporting Braga and Celta, he spent the entire 2007/08 campaign with Albacete.

Having displayed considerable promise, he was subsequently snapped up by Albacete for the 2008/09 season.

Now deemed ready for life in the top tier of Spanish football, he is currently with Primera Liga outfit Real Valladolid.

Atletico have been impressed by the Brazilian's continued progression and have tied him down on new terms which will run until June 2012.

Matured

Costa is delighted to have penned a new deal and is determined to repay Atletico's faith in his ability.

"I'm really happy because this shows that after a few years away from the club they still have confidence in me," he told the club's official website .

"Atletico have helped my career to develop and I hope to repay that confidence in the future.

"I think I have matured as a player and as a person. I think I have achieved what I set out to do.

"I have grown and Atletico have recognised that with this agreement."
