Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has signed at new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2013.
The 30-year-old Uruguayan was Europe's most prolific forward last season with 32 league goals, and has been rewarded with a new deal despite the club's poor recent run of form.
Atletico have suffered a terrible start in La Liga, and former manager Abel Resino was replaced last month by Quique Sanchez Flores, with results picking up since the change of personnel.
"I'm very happy with the renewal," he told the club's official website . "I've always said, since I arrived at this club, that I was very happy and that it was my hope to stay at Atletico for many years.
"It's a dream to be able to extend my contract for two more years.
"I'm convinced that we can obtain titles in this time."
Atletico hammered Marbella 6-0 in the Copa Del Rey on Tuesday and drew 2-2 with Chelsea at the beginning of the month - a mark of their improvement under new boss Flores.
However, Los Colchoneros are still languishing in 18th place in the Primera Division, with just seven points from 10 games so far.
"The club and my team-mates and I will do everything possible to win everything possible, although now the most important thing is to get out of the situation that we are in," Forlan added.
"Soon we will be in the places where we should be.
"I'm confident that the improvement will bring good results. Nobody should doubt that we (the players) are the first people who want to turn this situation around."
