Puyol - Robinho not necessary

Puyol - Robinho not necessary

Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol insists the Catalan giants have no need to sign Manchester City playmaker Robinho.

Speculation continues to link the Brazil international with an imminent return to Spain, with Camp Nou his most likely destination.

The 25-year-old frontman only quit the Primera Liga in September 2008, moving to City from Real Madrid in a Ј32.5million switch.

He settled quickly in English football and did not take long to become a firm fans' favourite at Eastlands.

Robinho has, however, struggled with injuries this term and has hinted that he could be prepared to take on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Comprehensive

Mark Hughes' Blues are now brimming with attacking talent and could easily cover for the loss of their Samba star.

Barcelona, though, are in much the same position, with their squad overloaded with potential match winners.

As a result, Puyol feels Robinho would bring nothing new to Pep Guardiola's side.

He said: "The Brazilian is a great player, but we already have very good players in that position like Thierry Henry and Andres Iniesta, who can also play on the wing.

"I think we have a comprehensive squad."
