Barca deny Robinho meeting

Barcelona have denied that they are due to hold a meeting with Manchester City in Abu Dhabi regarding Robinho.

The Brazilian star has been the subject of much transfer speculation in recent weeks, having been linked with a move to the Catalan giants on a number of occasions.

With City playing a friendly against United Arab Emirates on Thursday, a Barca delegation is due to be at the Zayed Sport City Stadium to watch the match.

However, Barcelona technical secretary Txiki Begiristain has denied that there would be talks between the two clubs regarding Robinho, saying the delegation would only be present at the invitation of the UAE hosts.

"We won't be meeting with City," said Begiristain on the club's official website .

"We're respectful and it hasn't been decided who should come, not even if anyone has to come and who it should be.

"There's a prior stage missing which is a meeting between Guardiola (Barcelona manager Pep) and me.

"Once the decision has been taken we will follow the strategy for any signing.

"This meeting hasn't taken place yet. So we're going to see the City match and that's all."

Blues manager Mark Hughes has insisted that Robinho will be staying at Eastlands, although the player and his agent father have hinted at their desire to move to Spain.

The 25-year-old forward was signed by City for Ј32.5million in September last year, but has not featured since August after suffering an injury.
