Monaco agree Gudjohnsen deal

Monaco have agreed a deal to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen from Barcelona.

Former Chelsea and Bolton ace Gudjohnsen had been linked with a move back to England with West Ham, but Monaco have won the race for his signature.

Gudjohnsen's future at Barca has been the subject of speculation all summer with the Icelandic international well down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola's plans.

Gudjohnsen joined Barca from Chelsea in 2006, but struggled to hold down a regular place in the side and he has now opted to move to Monaco in search of regular first-team football.

The signing will come as a blow to West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola who was keen to be reunited with his former Chelsea team-mate at Upton Park.

Gudjohnsen had signed a two-year deal at Stade Louis II and will link up with his new team-mates after the international break.

Monaco also confirmed they have completed a deal to sign 23-year-old midfielder Mathieu Coutadeur from Le Mans on a four-year deal.
