Real rule out Ribery swoop

Real rule out Ribery swoop

Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano has ruled out a January swoop for long-term target Franck Ribery.

Big-spending Real were continually linked with Bayern Munich ace Ribery during the summer, but Bayern managed to keep hold of the Frenchman.

A number of Europe's top clubs have been credited with an interest in Ribery with rumours suggesting Real could rekindle their interest in the winger when the transfer window reopens in January.

However, Valdano insists Real are unlikely to make any new move for Ribery in the New Year.

"I do not believe the winter market is for players of the stature of Ribery, but I do not know," Valdano told Marca.

"Ribery is a matter of the past and perhaps something for the future, but the present consists of the 24 players who make up the Real Madrid squad."
