Sevilla have revealed that they are yet to discuss a new contract with Luis Fabiano, insisting they are prepared to bide their time.
The Brazil international appeared destined to be on his way out of the club over the summer, as uncertainty reigned regarding his future.
Potential moves to England and Italy were touted, without a deal actually materialising.
As a result Fabiano remains in Spain and has promised Sevilla that he is committed to helping the club be as successful as possible.
Those comments suggest that he may even be tempted into prolonging his association with the club, an issue the Sevilla board are keen to investigate.
However, club president Jose Maria Del Nido claims there is no rush to open talks, as he believes Fabiano is going nowhere any time soon.
"I have seen the quotes from the player in the papers, stating that he is committed to the club," he said.
"Now it is his objective to score as many goals as possible before we re-evaluate the situation.
"The season is very long and we have plenty of time to discuss this topic. I assure you that there are no plans to talk about a contract extension right now."
