Resino gets Atletico backing

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has offered his support to Abel Resino, insisting the coach will stay in charge for the whole season.

Reports in Spain have suggested Resino is battling to save his job following Atletico's disappointing start to the new campaign.

The club are second bottom in La Liga after collecting two points from four games, and were also held 0-0 at home by Apoel Nicosia in their opening UEFA Champions League group tie.

However, ahead of Saturday's trip to Valencia, Resino has received a vote of confidence from Atletico supremo Cerezo.

"For what reason would I give him an ultimatum?" said Cerezo. "Has he killed someone?

"He has lost two matches and drawn another two.

"Abel will be coach for the whole season. I am sure the team will put in a great performance against Valencia."
