Attending a press conference after being on the end of a 6-0 drubbing cannot be a pleasurable experience, but Jose Luis Mendilibar was philosophical in defeat as he fronted the media after the match on Saturday night.
Speaking about his team's performance, Mendilibar said, "The result was not expected. We went into the game with the intention of giving our best, even though we knew that this is the best team in the league, and perhaps Europe, due to the rhythm with which they play.
"We made too many mistakes and lost too many balls, which allowed them to launch their fast counter attacks. We made mistakes for the third and fourth goals. But the result is there and we cannot say anything about it, but for us to win we would have had to perform at a hundred percent, and they would have to be below par."
Mendilibar proceeded to further praise Barcelona, stating, "They are a team that passes and controls with great precision, and has great technical players. They win with ease while other teams have many more difficulties. We will see how they fare in the future, but at the moment they are the best."
There is no time for moping for Mendilibar, as he must prepare his troops for the visit of Real Madrid next weekend.
