Mallorca's David Navarro Taken To Hospital

The Spanish defender, who has made ten starts for the Islanders this season, suffered a blow just above his eyebrow and was stretchered off the pitch. He will spend the evening under observation but it is believed to be a precautionary measure.

After the recent health scares recently surrounding professional players, doctors in Spain are taking no chances regarding their health. Navarro it is believed will undergo tests to ensure that no permanent damage has occurred.

The incident took place in the 44th minute when a free-kick into the box, and an elbow from one of his own teammates caught Navarro above the eye. He complained of dizziness when being carried from the field during the heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of Valladolid today, a result which sees Mallorca drop to 15th position, just two points above the relegation zone in the Primera Division.

The turmoil surrounding the collapse of businessman Paul Davidson's proposed takeover of the club appears to have affected the players performances on the pitch, as they have picked up just one win from their last seven fixtures. It doesn't get any easier for Mallorca, either - they face Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Villarreal over the Christmas period.
