Ronaldo to miss Sevilla clash

Ronaldo to miss Sevilla clash

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Sunday's game against Sevilla due to an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old winger picked up the knock in the 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over Marseille in midweek, a game in which he bagged two goals, but he will not travel with the squad for the league clash.

The Portugal international was reportedly keen to play through the pain but Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has decided not to risk him.

It will be the first time Ronaldo has missed a game for Los Merengues since his arrival in Spain, and the former Manchester United player has been in top form - scoring nine goals in seven games so far this season.

Doctors say the injury is not serious and he should be fit for Portugal's World Cup qualifier against Hungary next weekend.

Pellegrini also left midfielders Lassana Diarra and Fernando Gago, striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and defender Alvaro Arbeloa out of the squad for the trip to Sevilla.
