Interest mounts in Canales

Interest mounts in Canales

Reports in Spain claim Barcelona, Sevilla and Real Madrid are keen on Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales.

The 18-year-old broke into the first-team set-up at Racing last season and is regarded as a hot prospect for the future.

He has figured once again in the Primera Liga this term, with his creative abilities in the middle of the park having already caught the eye across Europe.

Premier League giants Chelsea were reported to have made an approach for his services in 2007, only for Racing to give the Blues short shrift.

Canales is, however, set to be out of contract in the summer and will be free to talk to interested parties from January.

Any move could be complicated by the fact that Deportivo La Coruna hold a 50 per cent stake in his contract, with the men from the Riazor yet to make their intentions known.

The likes of Barca and Real are, however, waiting in the wings to see how the situation unfolds, with the Spanish U18 international likely to cause a mad rush for his signature should he opt to move on at the end of the current campaign.
