Valencia are thought to be about to step up their interest in Standard Liege's Milan Jovanovic after reported interest from Aston Villa.
Villa were linked to the midfielder in the British press on Wednesday and it has been mooted that Valencia have sprung into action as a consequence.
Los Che scouts have reportedly been watching the 28-year-old for some time but interest from elsewhere has perhaps forced their hand earlier than they would have liked.
Speculation in Spain claims that the cash-strapped club are prepared to do a deal in January that would see Jovanovic arrive at the Mestalla for the start of the 2010/11 season.
Valencia vice-president Fernando Gomez has been quoted as saying that Jovanovic is 'a player we are very interested in' while the player himself is open to the idea of a move.
"If interest appears it is normal to study the offer and evaluate all the questions because I want to improve my career," he said.
Jovanovic's contract runs until June 2010 and talks over a new deal have reportedly stalled due to a difference of opinion in terms of wages, meaning Valencia will be able to sign the player for free when his deal eventually expires.
