Villarreal were held to a draw, Racing Santander were shocked and Real Valladolid secured a slender win in their first-leg matches in the fourth round of the Copa del Rey.
Ernesto Valverde's struggling Villarreal side's miserable season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw at 10-man third-tier side Puertollano.
Valverde's team, who sit in La Liga relegation zone with only six points from eight matches, fell behind to an Alvaro Valdes goal in the 14th minute.
Puertollano defender Jorge Juan Pelegrina was shown a straight red card shortly after half-time before Villarreal's French midfielder Robert Pires equalised with 25 minutes remaining.
Top-flight outfit Racing Santander were upset 1-0 at second division Salamanca as Salva Sevilla scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot on 87 minutes.
Real Valladolid defeated visiting Real Mallorca 2-1 as Diego Costa scored the decisive goal with 11 minutes remaining.
With both teams playing in La Liga, this was expected to be a tight contest but Cesar Arzo put Valladolid in front after only three minutes.
Jose Luis Marti equalised from the penalty spot after 27 minutes, however, Diego then won the contest.
