Xabi Alonso admits winning the UEFA Champions League is Real Madrid's priority for this season.
An unprecedented summer of spending at the Bernabeu has raised expectations following what has been a disappointing couple of years in the Spanish capital.
Barcelona's supremacy under Pep Guardiola has only added to Madrid's desire to reverse their fortunes, but it is European rather than domestic silverware at the top of the agenda.
Alonso, one of the much feted Galacticos lured to Madrid over the summer, is keen to get his hands on Europe's premier club competition.
"The Champions League is the primary objective for Real Madrid this season," he said.
"The title will not be easy though as the competition is very open.
"We know the race will be hard because there are many strong clubs from England and Italy.
"But to win the trophy would be spectacular for us."
That the final is to be played at the Bernabeu has whetted his appetite further.
"The attraction to play the final at home is enormous but I do not believe it brings greater pressure.
"For clubs like Madrid we are obliged to fight on all fronts each season."
