Souleymane Diawara has expressed remorse over the tackle that injured Cristiano Ronaldo.
Marseille defender Diawara was sent off after he brought down Ronaldo during the UEFA Champions League clash at Real Madrid on 30th September.
Ronaldo returned to action for Portugal over the weekend but aggravated the ankle problem and now faces a spell on the sidelines.
He hopes to recover quickly but is likely to miss a number of key games for Real and Diawara has issued an apology for the poor challenge.
"I am sorry. I am sad and it's been tormenting me these last few days. I didn't intend to injure him," the Senegalese centre-back told AS .
"I hope from the bottom of my heart that he recovers as quickly as possible.
"I was so pleased to be marking Kaka or Cristiano Ronaldo. It was a dream come true but now with the defeat and everything that happened with Cristiano, it has become something dismal."
