Marquez set for Pep talk

Marquez set for Pep talk

Rafael Marquez is to hold talks with Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola about his future after the World Cup.

Marquez, who was part of the Mexico side that exited the South Africa finals in Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Argentina, insists he needs to speak to the Barca coach before deciding whether to accept a new contract at Camp Nou.

The Mexico international, who skippered his team in the Group A win over France, has been offered a two-year deal to stay in Catalunya, but is weighing up his options after only starting seven games in La Liga last term.

With Yaya Toure seemingly destined to leave for Manchester City, 31-year-old former Monaco ace may enjoy greater opportunities to play for the Spanish champions as a holding midfielder - a role he excelled in with El Tri this month.

The versatile schemer, who is equally adept in central defence, warned Guardiola ahead of their projected discussions that if his situation does not improve next term, he could leave.

Marquez, who is a target for Galatasaray, told TV3 : "I am going to have a conversation with the coach to ask him about my future because watching what happened to me last year, when I didn't have too much participation, I want to know if now I am in the plans of the coach or not.

"I will have to know having a conversation with Guardiola. After that conversation I will know if I continue where I am or not. And if there is a chance for me to leave I will leave."

Uche to have final say

Uche to have final say

Kalu Uche will be given license to make the final decision on where his future will lie this summer.

The highly-rated striker is tipped to be on the move over the coming weeks, having seen his international commitments with Nigeria reach a conclusion.

The Super Eagles failed to make it through the group stage at the 2010 World Cup and their players are in the process of returning to their respective clubs.

For now, that means Uche, after an extended break, will head back to Spanish outfit Almeria.

He is not expected to stick around for long, though, with interest in his services growing by the day.

Fulham and Hull City are reported to be keen on taking him to England, while Turkish giants Fenerbahce are believed to be in pole position to land his signature.

Offers

No formal bids have been lodged as yet, but Almeria are already preparing themselves for a flurry of bids.

They accept that keeping the 27-year-old in Spain is now unlikely and have admitted that they are ready to cash in.

It is believed that an offer of around €3.5million (Ј2.9m) would be enough to force their hand, although Almeria president Afonso Garcia has admitted that Uche will have the final say in any deal.

"We need to analyse everything carefully and stay calm," he said.

"But it is normal that the player decides where they go."

Agent - No AC contact with Hleb

AC Milan have not made any contact about a possible move for Alexander Hleb, according to the player's agent.

The Barcelona winger has seen himself fall out of favour at Camp Nou, having been on loan at former club Stuttgart for the previous campaign.

The 29-year-old moved to the Catalan giants in 2008 from Arsenal, but the Belarus international is now reportedly seeking a move away after rejecting the chance to join Milan's rivals Inter last year.

"I read on the newspapers about these stories, but sincerely there has been no contact," said agent Maurizio Gaudino told calciomercato.it.

"Even our collaborators in Italy were not contacted. In the next seven to eight days we will meet with Barcelona, we must understand their intentions and then, if the club decides to sell him, talk with the clubs concerned."

Hungry

Despite being a key part of the Gunners' setup in the 2007-8 season, Hleb decided to move to Barcelona, however the switch did not work out under Pep Guardiola and he will be looking to get what was a promising career back on track

"Hleb wants to prove he still has great career ahead, he's hungry for victories," added Gaudino.

"The refusal of Inter last year? It was his decision, perhaps wrong.

"I think now should be a possibility. AC Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Demidov in Sociedads sights

Newly-promoted Real Socieded are closing in on a deal which will see Vadim Demidov head to Spain.

The Norway international is currently on the books of Rosenborg, but is set to be out of contract at the end of the year.

Sociedad have wasted no time in their efforts to try and lure the Latvia-born defender to the Primera Liga.

Demidov is delighted to learn of the interest from Spain and has admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to secure such a switch.

"I know they are interested and have contacted Rosenborg," he told VG .

"It's flattering that a club who play in La Liga is interested in me."

Meetings

Rosenborg have also confirmed that they are currently locked in negotiations regarding a possible departure for the 24-year-old.

"We have been in contact with Real Sociedad," director Erik Hoftun told NTB .

"We have held meetings and have discussed the matter."

Toffees trying to keep Arteta

Toffees trying to keep Arteta

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has held talks with Mikel Arteta in an effort to keep him at the club.

Reports have suggested that the Spanish schemer is looking to head home this summer after seeing his one-year-old son, Gabriel, diagnosed as being partially sighted.

That appears to have ended any hope the likes of Arsenal - who have been linked with a move - have of luring him away from Goodison Park and keeping him in England.

Arteta has spent the last five years on Merseyside, earning a reputation as one of Europe's most under-rated playmakers.

Persuade

His talents have not gone unnoticed by Everton's rivals, though, and they fully expected there to be interest this summer.

Kenwright is confident he and David Moyes can convince the 28-year-old to stay put for now, but the fact that they have had to have such a discussion does not bode well.

"It is true that David and myself have spoken to Mikel on a couple of occasions this summer and tried to persuade him his future lies with us," Kenwright said in the Liverpool Echo .

"We earnestly believe that is still the case. The health of Gabriel has never been mentioned in these discussions."

Toure agent expects deal

Toure agent expects deal

Yaya Toure's agent has revealed he expects the midfielder to seal a switch to Manchester City in the next few days.

The 27-year-old Barcelona man has been involved in a long transfer saga so far this summer but negotiations are expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Toure, an Ivory Coast international, is set to link up with his brother Kolo at Eastlands, following three years at Camp Nou.

The move was delayed as he was competing with the Ivory Coast in the World Cup, but following the Elephants' exit in the group stage, he is now free to sort out his domestic future.

Agent Dimitri Seluk told Sport : "I think we will have a solution this week. In fact, I would say that (it will be done) on the first or second of July - maybe on the second because the first will be a very busy day at Barca with the change of president."

Seluk revealed he will speak to new Barca president Sandro Rosell, but insists Toure has his heart set on a move to the Premier League club.

"Yes, we have to talk, but of course, the reality is not going to change in one moment," he added.

"Yaya wants to play the important games and he knows that he will be an important player at Manchester City.

"It is not a money problem, as I have said 1,000 times, but a problem of (the lack of) confidence (that Barca have in him)."

Tiago pining for Atletico stay

Tiago pining for Atletico stay

Tiago has accused Juventus of 'murdering' his career while reiterating his desire to rejoin Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder has struggled for regular first-team football at Juve since joining the club from Lyon in 2007.

He signed for Atletico on loan for the second half of last season and impressed at the Spanish side.

And Tiago, who is at the World Cup with Portugal, has made no secret of his wish to stay with Atletico.

He said in Gazzetta dello Sport : "In Spain, at Atletico Madrid, I feel really good and I would like to remain, even if it's not up to me.

"At Juventus it has gone badly. They have 'murdered' me since the beginning without having seen me play.

"It has been a mistake joining Juventus and I'm not able to think about coming back."

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo confirmed the club are in talks with Juve over striking a permanent deal for Tiago.

"We want to sign him on a permanent deal. We are in negotiations with Juventus," Cerezo added.

Pique ponders Nando and Cesc

Pique ponders Nando and Cesc

Gerard Pique claims he would relish the opportunity to play with Spanish team-mates Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona next season.

The transfer talk throughout the summer has been dominated by Fabregas' projected move to the Camp Nou, but the Barca defender has also talked up the idea of Liverpool's star striker joining the Catalan giants.

Barca have already signed one Spain striker this summer following the capture of David Villa from Valencia.

The Catalans also paid a hefty amount to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan last year, but the Sweden striker had a disappointing first season at the Nou Camp and new Barca president Sandro Rosell is reportedly a big admirer of Torres.

Pique believes the 26-year-old would be a great signing for the La Liga superpower but admits the deal may be a hard one to complete.

Complicated

"It's complicated," said the former Manchester United centre-half.

"The operation for Fernando is a difficult one. I don't know to what extent there is interest or if it is press talk but if he came, they (Torres and Villa) would form an incredible partnership.

"They are very good players and when two good players play together, they are always compatible."

Pique has been impressed by Torres' goalscoring record at Anfield and he reckons the former Atletico Madrid performer would take the Primera Division by storm if he were to return.

"In the three years he has been there (in England), his statistics are excellent, added the 23-year-old: "He has scored loads of goals, played a lot for Liverpool and showed he has a great eye for goal.

"But we can't forget about Zlatan and Bojan (Krkic) because they are great players up front and I don't know about the (reported) interest in the footballers we have (at Barca)."

Fabregas

As for Fabregas, the Spanish central defender hopes the Arsenal midfielder will join Barca sooner rather than later.

"I don't know when he'll come, but he will. I hope it's this year. The negotiations are under way, he will cost money but we hope it happens," Pique said.

But Pique insists his Spain team-mate is not allowing himself to be distracted by the constant rumours of a possible move to the Nou Camp.

"Cesc is sufficiently mature and has a lot more experience than me in the national team. I don't need to say anything to him," he added.

Fabregas - Pep is my idol

Fabregas - Pep is my idol

Cesc Fabregas has reiterated 'it won't be a problem' to join Barcelona after revealing coach Pep Guardiola is his idol.

Arsenal captain Fabregas is Barcelona's top summer transfer target as the Spanish champions look to bring the midfielder back to Camp Nou.

Barca, who lost the Spain international to Arsenal as a 16-year-old, have already failed with one bid, but remain confident of eventually agreeing a deal.

And, while Fabregas is putting his future on hold until the conclusion of Spain's World Cup campaign, he admits he would be happy to rejoin his first club.

"I won't think about anything until after the World Cup," Fabregas told Ona FM .

"It won't be a problem if I return to Barcelona because Barca is my home. The people there are always sensational in the way they treat me."

Special affection

Fabregas also expressed his admiration for Guardiola, who was a stalwart in the Barcelona midfield before becoming the club's coach.

He added: "Guardiola has always been my idol since childhood. I played in his position and I noticed him.

"My coach even gave me a shirt signed by him."

However, Fabregas was also quick to praise his current manager - Arsene Wenger - for the role he has played in helping him become one of the game's leading players.

"He means everything to me. He is the person who put his trust in me," said Fabregas.

"Without him, I don't know if I would be a professional footballer today. I owe him a lot and I have a special affection for him."

Iker - Utd and City want me

Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas says he is happy at the Spanish giants - but he has not ruled out the possibility of a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 29-year-old Spanish international's consistent performances have attracted much interest, including from both Manchester United and City.

While he been at the Spanish giants all his career and is happy at present, he does not rule out moving on some day.

This may come sooner than later if a big money bid comes in for Casillas, especially as new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he wants to buy a top-class keeper this summer.

Casillas, who is currently on duty at the World Cup, told the Daily Star Sunday : "I am aware of the interest of both Manchester United and City.

Flattered

"I'm always flattered whenever another club shows interest in my qualities as a goalkeeper. I have been at Real Madrid all my career and I still enjoy going to training every day.

"I enjoy meeting the fans too - but we all know how uncertain things are in football.

"I'm not going to say never. Right now Madrid would have to kick me out of the club before I consider a move.

"Who knows what will happen, though, if a big money offer comes in."

Fabiano wants United move

Fabiano wants United move

Brazil striker Luis Fabiano has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United after ruling out a move to Tottenham.

The Sevilla star does not want to sign a new contract with the Spanish club and he is a target of AC Milan.

Fabiano, who scored twice against Ivory Coast in the group stages of the World Cup, is attracted by Milan, but he is also keen on a move to United, where he would be able to play alongside Wayne Rooney.

Sevilla have said they will not sell the 29-year-old, however, he is desperate to secure a move that will give him a chance to win the UEFA Champions League.

Fabiano told the Daily Star Sunday : "I have a real chance of winning a World Cup here in South Africa, and that is what I must stay focused on even though I know my future has to be sorted soon.

"I have made it clear that I will not be signing a new contract with Sevilla and at 29 I now need to join a club where I can start challenging for the highest honours from the first season.

"I have heard Tottenham Hotspur made an inquiry about me but, with all respect, that is not somewhere I am going to be able to win the Premier League or the European Cup in the next three or four years.

Giant

"There would be no point in me joining Tottenham. I might as well stay at Sevilla, as it's the same thing. Sevilla are actually bigger when you look at how much we have been in the European Cup, so there would be no point me moving to a smaller team.

"The choice will come down to Manchester United and AC Milan. That is the sort of team I want to be signing for, one of the true giants of Europe.

"I think the way Manchester United play football is very attractive, I must be honest and say Premier League football attracts me and also the way Manchester United play football attracts me.

"You think about being Wayne Rooney's strike partner and that is very attractive for any striker.

"I think the style of Premier League football suits me and I think I could score goals and be very successful there.

"Their coach is a winner, their players are winners and they are one of the few teams in Europe challenging for the top honours season after season.

"As soon as the World Cup is over I will make a quick decision on my future - and while it is going on I hope Sevilla can open discussions. I have enjoyed my time here but I now need to be at a giant."

Palermo prepare for duos exit

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has admitted he expects Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani to leave the club this summer.

Kjaer, 21, already had a host of admirers and the centre-back has continued to impress at the World Cup with Denmark.

Inter Milan are thought to have joined the race for Kjaer although Zamparini insists there has been no contact from the Italian champions.

"They haven't called me, so I don't know," he told GR Parlamento.

"But I know of contacts with the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Wolfsburg.

"In my opinion, when some offers come in for a player, he must leave.

Kjaer offers

"There are a couple of offers important enough which we are discussing, then I'll discuss with the player.

"I also need to seek a replacement. Kjaer's valuation is 15-20million euros and that figure is important to us."

Uruguay striker Cavani, meanwhile, has expressed his desire to move on after three years with Palermo and given their attacking options, Zamparini insist they are happy to grant the 23-year-old's wish.

"He is on the market because he wants that," Zamparini added. "He wants to go to another club and we don't hold back anyone.

"We are dealing with it. We'll see how it will end. In attack, we have four players, but I think Kjaer and Cavani will leave."

Real Madrid bid

However, Zamparini insists the club are in no rush to cash in on Argentinian midfielder Javier Pastore.

Zamparini claims he has already turned down a bumper offer from Real Madrid for the 21-year-old, who made his senior international debut in May and was named in Argentina's final World Cup squad.

But Palermo are keen to hang on to Pastore as they believe his value will only increase.

"A month ago I received an offer for him from Real Madrid for 25million euros," Zamparini added.

"I refused and I hope that Pastore remains with us at least two more years.

"In the future, it will be difficult to keep him in Palermo, but now is not the time to sell for any price. Next year he will be worth 50million euros."

Laporta - Gunners will give in

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident Arsenal will eventually accept defeat in their battle to hold onto Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunners have already turned down a Barca bid for their star midfielder - thought to be in the region of Ј29 million.

The Spanish champions are preparing to go back to Arsenal with an improved offer for the 23-year-old, who started out in the Barca youth ranks before being lured to North London in 2003.

And although the Premier League side are determined not to lose their captain, Laporta believes they can only resist Barca's overtures for so long.

"Arsenal will end up giving in, but I don't know when that will be," he told reporters on a visit to Sant Guim de Freixenet.

"We will have to wait and let the professionals who are taking care of it do their work."

Pledge

Laporta is set to leave his post at the end of the month to be replaced by Sandro Rosell and, although the outgoing president is unsure whether a deal can be struck before he steps down, his successor pledged to land Fabregas during his successful election campaign.

"If it's not us, it will be up to the new board if they consider it appropriate to carry on along this road," Laporta told the club's official website .

Barca have already signed Spain striker David Villa from Valencia this summer and have been linked with a move for his international team-mate Fernando Torres.

That means Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry could both be heading out of the Camp Nou this summer.

"The market is very changeable and is moving at the moment, so we have to be careful in that sense," Laporta added.

Hammers fail with Barca bid

West Ham have failed with a bid to lure Barcelona starlet Andreu Fontas to Upton Park, skysports.com understands.

Fontas' current deal has a buy-out clause of just €3million (Ј2.5million) and The Hammers made their move to land the highly-rated defender.

West Ham went as far as agreeing terms with the 20-year-old and were ready to conclude a deal for him.

However, Barca - who have lost a string of top youngsters in similar circumstances in recent years - have now persuaded Fontas that he is very much part of their first-team plans and he is set to sign a long-term deal at Camp Nou.

Fontas made his debut for Barca's first-team last season and Pep Guardiola is ready to include him in his plans next term.

Meanwhile, West Ham have confirmed that their young striker Cristian Montano has agreed his first professional contract with the club.

The 18-year-old Colombian-born striker has penned a one-year deal.

Diarra seeks Real stay

Diarra seeks Real stay

Mahamadou Diarra is hoping to be given another opportunity to prove himself at Real Madrid.

The experienced midfielder has been with the Primera Liga giants since 2006, but has fallen down the pecking order over recent years.

Injuries have also hampered his cause in each of the last two seasons, restricting him to just 33 appearances in all competitions.

The Mali international is, however, back to full fitness and determined to earn an extended stay at Santiago Bernabeu.

Reports had suggested that he could be moved on this summer, with a number of clubs believed to be interested, but Diarra is reluctant to leave.

He is excited by the prospect of working under Jose Mourinho next season and insists he is yet to fulfil his ambitions in the Spanish capital.

"I do not want to leave Real Madrid without having won the Champions League," Diarra told Marca .

Challenge

"This is my challenge and I want to stay here and do that.

"I want to work with Mourinho and to show him that I am worthy of a starting place.

"For me he is a coach with the same mentality as (Fabio) Capello and he was good for me when he was at Real.

"Mourinho is a winner and perhaps we needed to have him on the bench this season."

Real ended the 2009/10 campaign empty-handed, but Diarra is confident that Mourinho is the man to oversee a reversal in fortunes - both for him and the club.

He added: "I am back to my peak physically and I am working towards having the best season of my career.

"I intend to stay at Real and this is a big test. I am focused on playing for Mourinho and bringing success back to this club."

Sevilla rule out Fabiano sale

Sevilla rule out Fabiano sale

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido insists they have no plans to sell star striker Luis Fabiano to AC Milan this summer.

The 29-year-old is reportedly a target for the Serie A giants, with Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani having hinted at a summer swoop for the Brazil international.

Sevilla's top scorer finished the La Liga season with 15 goals from 18 starts and he has continued to impress at the World Cup, scoring twice in Brazil's 3-1 win over Ivory Coast on Sunday.

But rather than looking to cash in on their prize asset, Del Nido has confirmed Sevilla are aiming to agree a new deal with Fabiano.

"We are negotiating with the player for the renewal of his contract," he told La Repubblica .

No contact

"There has been no contact with Milan."

The former Porto striker has one year on his current contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan but indicated last month he would be open to a move to Milan should they revive the interest they showed in him last summer.

Fabiano has now scored 27 goals in 40 internationals and would link up with compatriots Alexandre Pato, Ronaldinho, Thiago Silva and Dida at the San Siro.

Chelsea could snatch Silva

Chelsea could snatch Silva

David Silva's agent has warned that Chelsea could hijack Manchester City's move for the Spain winger.

City were given permission by Valencia to speak to the 24-year-old, with the two clubs thought to have agreed a fee of Ј28million.

But Chelsea are one of two other clubs who have also registered their interest in Silva and his agent, Julio Llorente, has hinted he would favour a move to Stamford Bridge instead of Eastlands.

Llorente insists that even if a deal has been struck between City and Valencia for Silva, who is currently with the Spain squad at the World Cup, his client is still free to choose his next destination.

"We're weighing up offers from three clubs and one is Chelsea," Llorente told the Daily Mail.

"If Silva doesn't want to go to City, the transfer isn't possible."

Silva has repeatedly been linked with a switch to England from cash-strapped Valencia, with Liverpool and Manchester United also named as potential suitors.

Barrera eyes European move

Mexico winger Pablo Barrera has admitted he would love to ply his trade in a top European league, amid reports linking him with a move to Valencia.

The 23-year-old, who currently plays for UNAM Pumas in his homeland, has caught the eye with his performances at international level this summer.

As well as impressing in the friendly defeat to England at Wembley, Barrera has made an impact off the substitutes' bench at the World Cup.

His main weapon is blistering pace and a number of sides in Europe are understood to be interested in snapping him up.

While Juventus and Lazio have been heavily connected with Barrera, reports earlier this week suggested that Manchester United and Tottenham were also monitoring the situation.

Barrera is eager to secure a switch and would be open to offers from the Premier League, as well as Serie A and the Primera Liga.

"I hope I can go abroad to play in a traditional club in Europe, but first I want to do well in the World Cup," he told Super Deporte .

"I like football in Spain ... the Italian, English, I like various styles of the game.

"I aspire to that, I want to be in a good team, that's all I want."

Barca linked with Mata swoop

Barca linked with Mata swoop

Barcelona have reportedly agreed a deal with Valencia for Spanish forward Juan Mata.

The 22-year-old has impressed over the past few seasons with Valencia, although the likes of David Villa and David Silva captured most of the headlines.

Still Barca look to have opted for Mata ahead of team-mate Silva, and are ready to pay €20million.

Some sources claim that Barca have decided that they were also not willing to take a risk on Manchester City's Robinho.

New president Sandro Rosell is understood to have taken charge of the negotiations and it will see Barca and Valencia strike a second deal in the space of a month, following the purchase of David Villa.

Pedro happy

Meanwhile, Barca starlet Pedro has joined the chorus of Catalan voices urging Cesc Fabregas to return to Camp Nou.

The Arsenal skipper is another wanted by Barca and they still hope he will sign over the summer.

"Cesc is doing fantastic, he's thinking only about the national team and he's relaxed," he told Marca .

"Of course I would like to have him at Barca.

"He has been playing away (from Spain) for a long time, he knows the club and he would adapt quickly."

Pedro also welcomed the recently signed Villa, saying: "He's a great player, a great striker who scores lots of goals. His movement is very good and he will adapt very quickly to the team.

"He'll be great. His arrival is extraordinary news for us."

Turks target Raul

Besiktas coach Bernd Schuster is planning a move for Real Madrid icon Raul.

Schuster is a big admirer of Raul having worked with the striker during his time in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Raul's future at Real is uncertain with the 32-year-old playing a bit-part role in the side last season.

Schuster has made a new striker one of his top priorities and he admits Raul is on his list of targets.

"A goalscorer would do us good," Schuster told Onda Cero .

"Last year we scored 45 goals and the topscorer got 13 goals. We need someone there, but I don't know if Raul would be willing to come to Turkey."

Milan focus on Fabiano

Milan focus on Fabiano

AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani remains 'hopeful' that he can persuade Brazil striker Luis Fabiano to join the club before the start of next season.

Fabiano currently has just one year remaining at Spanish club Sevilla, and has been strongly linked with a move away from Sanchez Pizjuan.

Milan are believed to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature, with Galliani admitting he attempted to sign the 29-year-old last season.

Galliani told Sky Italia : "Will Luis Fabiano come to AC Milan? Hopefully. I spoke with him a lot last season but it was not possible to sign him.

"He is the player who has excited me most in this World Cup."

Pleased

Luis Fabiano's agent Jose Fuentes has urged Galliani to pick up the phone and begin negotiations with both club and player.

He told calciomercato.it : "Galliani hopes to have Luis Fabiano? He knows what he has to do - call Sevilla and me.

"I'm pleased about this (interest) because Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world, along with Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

"At the moment there is nothing concrete, I don't know if Milan has called (Sevilla president) Jose Maria del Nido."

Asked whether there is any chance of Fabiano extending his current deal at Sevilla, Fuentes added: "Renewal? The situation is clear, the player still has a one-year contract with Sevilla and the club cannot run the risk of losing a player of this level on a free transfer next year.

"In my opinion, Luis Fabiano will only stay if he renews his contract. Otherwise, I think it is more logical to leave because the club wants the money.

"Currently there is no real negotiation because the player is focused exclusively on the World Cup. I think that his future will be decided when he returns from South Africa."

Impossible

Managerless Rossoneri have been linked with a host of star-studded names as they attempt to wrestle back the Serie A title from fierce city rivals Inter next term.

When asked about the likelihood of bringing Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and former Cagliari boss Massimiliano Allegri to the club in respective roles, Galliani added: "(Zlatan) Ibrahimovic? Impossible - he's too expensive. The Spanish financial system is better.

"Allegri? We are quiet."

Veteran midfielder Gennaro Gattuso could be one man leaving the San Siro this summer, although Galliani believes the Italian will remain with the club.

"Gattuso? He remains and doesn't go to Dubai. He has a contract and will remain with us."

Mata reveals English interest

Mata reveals English interest

Juan Mata has revealed that he would be open to a Premier League move should the opportunity arise.

The Spain international is hot property at the moment, having dazzled for Valencia over recent years.

At just 22 years of age it is expected that Los Che will struggle to retain his services for long, especially as they continue to struggle under the weight of financial upheaval.

Unsurprisingly, a switch to England has been touted, with the youngster seemingly tailor-made for the Premier League.

A tricky winger with a keen eye for goal, any number of clubs would be happy to have him within their ranks.

Mata insists he will not be pushing for an imminent transfer, as he is happy at Mestalla, but accepts the issue may be taken out of his hands.

Inspirational

Should Valencia decide that the time is right to cash in, Mata admits he would relish the chance to try his luck at any of England's so-called 'Big Four'.

"I don't know if I'll be sold, it depends on the economic situation of the club, which right now isn't so good," he told FourFourTwo .

"In the summer we have to raise a lot of money, and there is a possibility that they may have to sell players.

"In Spain they show many Premier League games on TV and it is an inspirational league.

"Maybe I would like to play in the Premier League. At the moment I'm here, I love living in Valencia and playing in the Spanish league, but in England the league is also top class and there are many big teams. Who knows?

"I admire Arsenal and the philosophy that the young players have. Liverpool, with their Spanish players - they also have an incredible squad. And Manchester United and Chelsea are teams that are very big, like Real Madrid and Barcelona, with money and incredible players."

Silva tempted by Chelsea

Silva tempted by Chelsea

David Silva admits the Premier League is 'the place to be' and has opened the door for a move to Chelsea.

The Valencia winger is currently away on World Cup duty, with Spain's quest for global glory dominating his thoughts at present.

He has, however, taken time out to discuss his future, with reports continuing to suggest that he is destined to leave Los Che this summer.

A switch to England has been widely touted, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all believed to be keen.

Silva has now revealed that he would be willing to make such a move, but has implied that he would rather try his luck in West London than the North West.

Pleasure

He said, in comments reported by the Daily Star : "Chelsea have established themselves as one of the best clubs in Europe over the last five years.

"They might not have the history of Real Madrid or AC Milan but they are creating their own history now. There is no reason why in the future Chelsea can't be as decorated as Real Madrid.

"Chelsea probably have, along with Barcelona, the best squad in football and if any player joins Chelsea he knows he is going to win things.

"In players like John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba they have players who would get into any team in the world and it would be a pleasure to play with them.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Chelsea would be a great club to play for - and a club where I could fulfil my ambition of league titles and the European Cup.

"The Premier League is still the place to be, no other league in the world has six or seven Champions League quality teams."

Marseille are set to seal a transfer coup by signing Spanish starlet Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Osasuna full-back has been tracked by Europe's elite, including Primera Liga titans Barcelona and Real Madrid.

In England, Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are all understood to have kept close checks on him.

However, the French champions have moved to agree a deal with Osasuna worth €7million and the player looks set to sign a four-year deal at the Stade Velodrome.

"It was a Didier Deschamps wish," Marseille general manager Antoine Veyrat confirmed to L'Equipe .

"But of course he has been overseen several times by our scouts."

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that as part of France's Euro 2016 scheme, the Stade Velodrome will have a roof built on it, whilst also seeing its capacity increase to 67,000.

Hleb set for Barca return

Alexander Hleb is set to return to Barcelona after his loan at Stuttgart, according to his agent.

The 29-year-old Belarus international signed for Barca in a big-money move two years ago, but last season he was sent out to spend the season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart.

His loan has now come to an end and the former Arsenal man has plans to go back and prove himself at Camp Nou.

Hleb's agent Uli Ferber told COM Radio : "The normal thing would be that he came back to train with the team.

"His plans are to return to Barcelona. That's the situation. He is not thinking of leaving for another team."

Hleb is currently working with a personal trainer in Germany to build up his fitness after a recent operation to repair a broken nose.

He will be expected to report for pre-season training with Barcelona on

Zlatan agent wants talks

Zlatan agent wants talks

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent wants talks with Barcelona's new president Sandro Rosell over the player's future.

The 28-year-old Swedish striker has not set Camp Nou alight in his first season in Spain, following a big-money move from Inter Milan.

And with David Villa moving to the club, he could see himself fall out of the side next term in the Primera Division.

Speculation has mounted regarding transfer interest from Premier League outfit Manchester City and Italian side AC Milan.

Ibrahimovic is thought to favour a move to the Rossoneri over a switch to City, because of the lure of UEFA Champions League football.

His agent Mino Raiola wants to get the ball rolling and sort out the forward's future, although he expects it will be a long summer.

He said: "I want to advance this subject soon but I think that this summer it will be very long for the operations."

Rosell has recently taken over from Joan Laporta as Barca president, and Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas is thought to be his number one target.

Toure agent expects departure

Toure agent expects departure

Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure is on the verge of leaving the club, according to the player's agent.

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international is reportedly close to signing for Premier League outfit Manchester City, where he would link up with his brother Kolo.

Toure moved to Barca for €9million from Monaco in 2007, and has won the Spanish league, Spanish Cup and UEFA Champions League during his time with the club, as well as the European Super Cup and the Fifa World Club Cup.

His agent Dimitri Seluk claims the Camp Nou exit door is moving ever closer, although he confirmed he would nevertheless seek talks with new Barcelona president Sandro Rosell.

"I think we will probably close his departure very soon. It is likely to be this week, but at the moment we can't announce anything," Seluk told Com Radio .

"I haven't spoken to Rosell, but out of respect of course I will speak to him before anything is closed.

"[Joan] Laporta is the president until June 30, but I have to speak to Rosell and know his opinion because he is the new president."

Pitch time

Toure is regarded highly in Catalunya but the reason for his desire to leave is thought to stem from a lack of playing time.

However, Barcelona, who clinched another Primera Division title last season, are far from forcing him out of the Camp Nou.

"Laporta, Rosell, (Pep) Guardiola, myself, Toure ... we all want him to stay at Barcelona - it's one of the greatest clubs in the world," Seluk added.

"Everything is perfect except for one thing: playing 65 per cent of the minutes is not sufficient for a player like Yaya, but that's the only reason we want to go."

Messi - Rooney always welcome

Messi - Rooney always welcome

Lionel Messi admits he would welcome the opportunity to play alongside Wayne Rooney - at Barcelona.

The Argentine superstar rates Rooney among the best players in the world and feels he would be an instant hit in Catalunya.

He is pessimistic regarding Barca's chances of luring the England striker away from Manchester United, but knows you can never rule anything out.

Messi believes Rooney would be successful at any club on the planet, with his passion for the game setting him apart from most of his contemporaries.

"It would be a dream to play with Rooney if Manchester United ever came to the point where they needed to sell him," Messi said in the Daily Star Sunday .

Blessed

"I would personally go to the Barcelona president and ask that he be signed myself.

"There are always a handful of players in the world at any one time who can go down in the footballing history books.

"At the moment, there are maybe (Cristiano) Ronaldo, Rooney, Xavi and one or two more - but I can't think of one that plays with the desire of Rooney.

"We all know football players at the top level are blessed with high wages, it's no secret. But Rooney would play for 100 euros-a-week. You can see the fire in his eyes.

"It's that fire which makes him the best of the best."

Heartbeat

Messi feels that were United to ever cash in on Rooney, he could easily become the most expensive player in history.

"If Rooney is ever sold, I think he will become the first 100million euro player," he added.

"With all respect to Ronaldo (who left United for Real Madrid in an Ј80m deal last summer), I think Rooney is a more important player for United than he was.

"Ronaldo's ability is undoubted but Rooney is not only the talent but the heart of the Manchester United team.

"I don't know if I will ever play with him but, if he ever wants to leave, he is one of the few talents that can improve this Barcelona team."

Ronaldo wont return

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has ruled out a return to Manchester United in the future.

The 25-year-old Portugal international spent six years at Old Trafford where he became a leading player for the Red Devils.

He won three Premier League titles with United, as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2008, before completing a big-money move to the Bernabeu last summer.

Ronaldo switched to Madrid for a world record Ј80million transfer fee, and has carried his excellent form into the Spanish league, although he could not take Real to the La Liga title last term.

He admits he does miss Manchester, but does not expect to return to the club at any time in the future.

"Yes, of course I miss Manchester," he said in the Daily Mirror .

But when asked if he would consider the possibility of a return to his former club, he remarked: "No, I don't think I'll be going back."

Makoun plays down move talk

Jean Makoun claims he has no desire to discuss speculation linking him with an exit from Lyon.

The holding midfielder is reported to have grown disillusioned with life at Stade Gerland and is keen to secure a summer switch elsewhere.

Various clubs have been mentioned as potential suitors, with the Cameroon international highly regarded within the world game.

The likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been touted as potential interested parties, with newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions Marseille also believed to be in the frame.

Makoun, though, is paying little attention to the furore surrounding his future and is keen to distance himself from the ongoing rumours.

History

His attention is focused solely on his duties with Cameroon at the World Cup for now, although he has hinted that a move to Marseille could be tempting.

"I am not interested in transfers to Real Madrid, Man Utd or Barcelona at the moment," Makoun told skysports.com .

"My concern at the moment is to perform well for my country and to try and create history here in Africa, allowing me to realise a childhood dream.

Sevilla snap up Guarente

Sevilla have completed the signing of Tiberio Guarente from recently-relegated Atalanta.

The 24-year-old suffered the pain of slipping out of Serie A last season, but can now console himself in the knowledge that he will once again be playing top flight football next term.

A number of assured displays in a struggling side during the course of the 2009/10 campaign have ensured that he has been quickly snapped up.

The former Italy U20 international leaves Atalanta after three years of loyal service, having joined the club from Hellas Verona in 2007.

He has made almost 100 Serie A appearances during his career and is highly regarded in his homeland.

Distribution

Guarente is not renowned for his goalscoring prowess, but has excellent distribution and is not afraid to get stuck in.

Sevilla are delighted to have landed his signature and hope he will prove to be a shrewd acquisition.

"Tiberio Guarente is now officially a Sevilla player," read a statement on the club's official website .

"The young Italian midfielder has signed a five-year contract, which includes a buyout clause of 30million euros (Ј25m)."

Messi eyes Cesc return

Messi eyes Cesc return

Barcelona star Lionel Messi says being reunited with Cesc Fabregas at the Camp Nou would be 'special'.

Arsenal midfielder Fabregas has been the subject of constant transfer speculation as Barca appear keen to take the 23-year-old back to Catalunya.

The 23-year-old began his career at Barcelona but moved to North London when he was just 16, and has proved a real success at the Emirates.

Pep Guardiola has already added David Villa to his ranks this summer, and Messi is hoping Fabregas can join the Primera Liga champions as well.

"I would like to play with Cesc again because I know him like (Gerard) Pique

(from the youth team)," he told Sport .

"We shared many things at that moment, when we coincided in Barca's youth team, and I know what he can give on the pitch.

"We're in contact. We speak and sometimes we send each other messages.

"He wants to come to Barcelona and we're all waiting to see what will happen.

I hope he ends up coming and that we can play together again.

Together again

"Nobody imagined that one day we could all be together in Barcelona's first team, especially when Cesc and (Gerard) Pique left.

"For us to be together again would be special, a lovely situation for those of us that were there back then."

Like Fabregas, Pique left the Camp Nou as a youngster to join Arsenal's Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Pique has since returned though, and Messi believes it would be a similar feeling if Fabregas were to go back.

He added: "It would be special to be reunited with Cesc in the same team, in the same way that it happened with Pique when he returned from his spell at Manchester United."

Chiellini softens United stance

Giorgio Chiellini's agent has hinted that his client may be interested in a switch to Manchester United.

Until now the Juventus defender has been keen to play down any talk of a summer switch.

He was even reported to be hankering after a new deal in Turin, having committed his future to the Bianconeri.

It appears, however, that he may have chosen to relax that stance, with speculation linking him with Europe's top clubs refusing to go away.

Premier League giants United are believed to be leading the chase for his signature, regarding him as a useful acquisition at the heart of their back four.

Chiellini has had his head turned by the mounting interest and his representative has now revealed that he would be foolish not to listen to United were they to make a move.

Davide Lippi told Radio Radio : "Manchester United? It is a club of great importance and we particularly like that.

Honoured

"With Giorgio we have decided not to talk about the market until after the World Cup, then we will reflect on everything."

He added: "I don't doubt that Manchester City and Real Madrid are also following the footsteps of Chiellini.

"We are honoured to be at Juventus and to have attracted interest from clubs like United and Real.

"Giorgio has signed a contract with Juventus two years ago, when he was young, and he has now enjoyed two great seasons and reached a top level.

"It is time for Chiellini to have the contract of a top player.

"We have talked of renewing, but not with the new board. They don't seem to be in any hurry to lock down a key man like Giorgio.

"For now everything is on hold, but we will see."

Big Sam admits Guti interest

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has admitted his interest in Real Madrid icon Guti, but conceded a deal is unlikely.

Guti is available on a free transfer with the classy playmaker leaving Real Madrid after 15 years at the Spanish giants.

Rovers defender Michel Salgado is trying to convince Guti to make the move to Ewood Park with Allardyce a big fan of the 33-year-old.

However, Allardyce admits Guti is not at the top of his priority list with a new striker his main target.

"Guti would be a player we would like to sign there is no doubt about that," Allardyce told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph .

"It has been fronted by Michel Salgado and it has been outstanding that a player like that would like to come to Blackburn.

"But a player in his position is not the priority at the moment.

"One of the stumbling blocks for me is the priority is a frontman and I am not so sure Mr Guti could wait for us to find a front man and see where we go from there.

"But that is the key thing for us to sign a front man and then look elsewhere after that."

Cesc talks on stand-by

Outgoing Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed any negotiations for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas are on 'stand-by'.

Barca have seen a bid rejected by the Gunners, who have stressed the influential midfielder is not for sale.

However, Fabregas' former club have not given up hope of landing his signature this summer.

Any further talks, though, are on hold as Sandro Rosell is due to replace Laporta as the club's president at the end of the month.

"The negotiation is on stand-by at the moment, in a tense calm," said Laporta.

"The sooner everything is unblocked, the better, but it must be understood that we, as the buying club, want to pay the least (amount) possible, and Arsenal, as the selling club, want to charge the highest possible amount of money."

Laporta also hinted that the Spanish champions are likely to offer an improved bid having seen a reported fee in the region of Ј30million rebuffed by Arsenal.

"We will try to adjust to the logic of the market, as always," he said.

He concluded: "The player wants to come, (coach) Pep Guardiola and (sporting director) Txiki Begiristain have shown me their wish for the operation to go ahead and I presume Rosell will have that same will."

Atletico Madrid general manager Miguel Angel Gil has insisted the club have not received any offers for either Diego Forlan or Sergio Aguero.

The striking pair have been linked with moves away from the Vicente Calderon this summer amid reported growing interest.

Both players are said to have been targeted by a number of top European sides, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea linked with Aguero while Forlan has been mooted with a move back to England.

But Gil said in AS : "We have not received any offers for Aguero or Forlan. That is the truth.

"We are aware of the reports in the newspapers but no offer has been tabled."

However, Gil did explain that the club's future is not held in just one player's hands - comments that will unlikely quell lingering transfer speculation.

He added: "Nobody is indispensable. The club is more important than the players and our project is not based around one footballer."

Rosell to discuss Fabregas

Rosell to discuss Fabregas

New Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is planning discussions with the club's current hierarchy as they attempt to maintain momentum in the pursuit of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Rosell is set to succeed outgoing Barcelona president Joan Laporta in two weeks' time after scooping a significant majority in the Spanish champions' elections on Sunday.

Laporta and Rosell have not always seen eye-to-eye, but the two embraced after the elections and the latter is now expecting a smooth transition period as he prepares to take full control at Camp Nou.

Top of Rosell's list of priorities is to meet with Laporta and Pep Guardiola before the manager goes on holiday in four days, with the bid to sign Fabregas set as a main topic of discussion.

"When we get together, Laporta will explain at what stage the Cesc situation is at," said Rosell.

"If negotiations are advanced and the coaching staff want the player, we will continue with the negotiations, without doubt.

"Until 1st July we can't do anything (as Laporta and his team remain in charge for two more weeks), but if they need help then we will be the first to give it."

Ingla announces Fab dream

Barcelona presidential candidate Marc Ingla admits he dreams of being the man to unveil Cesc Fabregas at Camp Nou.

Ingla will take the top post at the Catalan giants on Sunday if he emerges victorious in the club's elections.

Should he be handed the reins, finalising a deal for Arsenal skipper Fabregas will be top of his priorities.

Barca have been tracking their former youth star for some time and have made no secret of their desire to bring the 23-year-old home.

Ingla hopes an agreement can be reached in the near future, giving him the opportunity to present the Spain international to a delighted fanbase.

"Cesc is a marvel, as is (David) Villa," he told Sport in a digital interview with readers of the newspaper's online version.

"My only worry is paying over the odds, but I confess that my dream would be to unveil Cesc as president.

"If he comes, I am convinced that Cesc will soon become the number one choice in his position."

Suitable

While determined to seal Fabregas' signature, Ingla has made it clear that Barca will not be held to ransom by Arsenal, with one offer having already been snubbed.

"Anything between 25 and 35 million euros would seem suitable," he said.

On the possible departures of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Yaya Toure, Ingla said he would trust the judgment of Barca's coaching staff.

"Whatever the coaches decide will be fine by me," he said.

"We won't interfere in technical issues - that's down to (coach) Pep (Guardiola) and (sporting director) Txiki (Begiristain)."

Silva attracting interest

Valencia president Manuel Llorente has admitted that the club have received a number of approaches for star midfielder David Silva.

Premier League trio Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been strongly linked with the Spain winger, while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also rumoured to be chasing the 24-year-old.

Los Che have recently sold one world class player in the form of David Villa, and Llorente has conceded that Silva also has plenty of admirers.

"Yes, some clubs have asked about David Silva," he said.

"This is normal because he is one of our key players and a Spain international. However, this subject is closed until the end of the World Cup.

"If we do receive a formal offer we will study it and decide what is best for the football club."

Cash-rich Manchester City are reported to have initiated a meeting with Valencia in the hope of signing him for around Ј30million.

Forlan eyes Prem return

Forlan eyes Prem return

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has admitted he would be interested in a move back to the Premier League.

Forlan had an unsuccessful stint with Manchester United earlier in his career, when it took him eight months to score his first goal for him the club and he left after just two-and-a-half years.

However, he has gone on to become one of the most feared forwards in the game since switching to Spain in 2004, enjoying a prolific three-year spell with Villarreal before joining Atletico.

Forlan helped fire Atletico to Europa League glory last season and has been tipped to dazzle with Uruguay at the World Cup this summer.

A series of good performances at international level will only fuel speculation that has already surfaced about his club future, with Forlan now hinting that he has unfinished business in England.

The 31-year-old maintains that he was happy at Old Trafford and would be willing to return to the Premier League if an agreement could be reached that suits all parties.

Offer

"If there is an offer and it's good for Atletico and good for me I would be really happy to go back to England. But it will have to be good," he said.

"If a big chance to return to England came up, I would have to look at it. I loved my time in English football - the people, the fans, the football, everything.

"I wasn't sad the way it ended at United to be honest. I was really happy during my time there and thank the people at United for how they treated me.

"During my period there I learnt a lot of things and had a good relationship with everyone. The reason I left was because I didn't have the chance to play as regularly as I wanted.

"Now I have the chance to play regularly the way I wanted and I am really happy I'm doing that."

Fergie praise

Forlan has also paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson for the way the Manchester United manager looked after him and helped his development.

"The way he treated me from the first time I arrived at Manchester was great," he explained.

"He was waiting for me in the stadium, took me to the hotel and showed me the facilities at the training ground. I really appreciated that.

"In private he is a very nice person and I have a lot of good memories of Sir Alex. He spent a lot of time with me and he taught me a lot of things."

New Barca deal for Pedro

New Barca deal for Pedro

Spain international Pedro has signed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2015.

The 22-year-old forward proved himself a prolific scorer for Pep Guardiola's side last season, netting 23 goals in all competitions.

He became the only player ever to have scored in all six major tournaments in one season as he found the back of the net for Barca in the Primera Division, Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League, World Club Cup and the Spanish and European Super Cups.

Tenerife-born forward Pedro, who is set to represent Spain at the World Cup when it gets under way this week, took time out from his preparations to extend his contract with Barca president Joan Laporta on Wednesday.

The Catalan club confirmed that Pedro, who scored his first international goal in a friendly against Poland on Tuesday, has been granted a large pay rise and his release clause, formerly set at €75million (Ј62m), has gone up to €90m (Ј74.5m).

He said: "Thanks to this news I will be much more relaxed as I travel to South Africa, and even more excited."

Silva concentrating on World Cup

Silva concentrating on World Cup

David Silva has admitted there is interest in him from England, but insists at the moment his thoughts are only with Spain.

The Valencia winger is in high demand with Manchester City believed to be leading the chase ahead of rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

Valencia sold David Villa to Barcelona earlier this summer, leaving Silva as their prized asset, but he could also be allowed to leave as the club remain in a precarious financial position.

Weekend reports suggested City were ready to step up their interest, but Silva refused to comment on any specific interest.

"My future right now is with the international team and I do not think beyond that," he told Superdeporte .

"I am devoting myself to training ahead of the World Cup - that is the most important thing, nothing else."

Silva did admit that Valencia would decide his future.

"The club is in a difficult situation but we did well to get into the Champions League, which was important.

"I have a contract signed up to 2013 and I do not have any problems with the club, I have heard about the interest from the Premier League - but any questions will be answered by my agent and the club."

Valencia swoop for Soldado

Valencia swoop for Soldado

Valencia have completed the signing of Getafe striker Roberto Soldado on a four-year contract.

Despite their perilous financial state, Valencia have decided to splash some of the cash generated by the sales of David Villa and Nikola Zigic with Soldado thought to have cost in the region of €10million.

Having scored 16 league goals last season many will expect the 25-year-old to ease the goalscoring burden left by Villa.

However the former Real Madrid youngster points out that he is his own player and insists he has not been brought in to replace anybody.

"I come to Valencia with all the enthusiasm in the world," he told the club's official website .

"I'm not here to replace anyone. I'm here to do my job."

Baggies snub Valero bid

West Brom have rejected out of hand an offer for midfielder Borja Valero from Sevilla.

Spaniard Valero has been strongly linked with the Primera Liga club after impressing on loan with Real Mallorca last season.

Sevilla put an undisclosed bid forward for the 25-year-old on Thursday, but the offer was immediately turned down by the Baggies, who have stressed they will not undersell the midfielder.

"There have been lots of rumours in the media over the past few weeks about Sevilla being interested in Borja but the bid they tabled yesterday was the first we have received from them," sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth told West Brom's official website .

"It was rejected out of hand as it was nowhere near what we would regard as an acceptable offer.

"Borja enjoyed an outstanding season in Spain and we have just been promoted to the top flight.

"If we do not receive a satisfactory offer for Borja, we are more than happy for him to rejoin us for pre-season training in three weeks' time and be a part of our Barclays Premier League squad."

Benfica deny Di Maria reports

Benfica deny Di Maria reports

Benfica have denied reports that they have received an offer for Argentina winger Angel di Maria.

A number of high-profile sides, in particular Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, have been linked with the gifted 22-year-old.

Manchester City are also said to be keen on Di Maria, who is contracted at Estadio da Luz until 2015.

However, Portuguese Liga champions Benfica have moved to dismiss the rumours, insisting no approach has been made.

A statement read: "There are no offers whatsoever that have been made to this company from any club, notably Real Madrid, company, businessman or any intermediary for the athlete Angel di Maria.

"We are not aware of any ongoing negotiations regarding the aforementioned athlete.

"Moreover, this company has only been made aware of possible interest from other clubs in the aforementioned athlete through the various reports in the media."

Revolution bring in three trialists for Benfica friendlyPerez - Real seeking signings

Perez - Real seeking signings

Perez - Real seeking signings

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says the club are eyeing two or three major signings for new coach Jose Mourinho.

Former coach Manuel Pellegrini was sacked after the Spanish giants failed to secure any silverware last season, allowing former Inter Milan boss Mourinho to step in as his successor last month.

And Perez has revealed Real are looking to bring in a handful of new players to bolster the squad next term.

Signings

"What we are definitely going to do is bring in two or three top players to complete the squad," Perez told television station Antena 3 .

Real have been linked to several players, including Inter right-back Maicon, Sevilla winger Jesus Navas and Benfica midfielder Angel Di Maria.

When questioned about Maicon, who helped Mourinho's Inter to UEFA Champions League glory last month, Perez said: "There is no rush but Maicon is one of the top players in his position."

On Navas and Di Maria he added: "They are two players who I also like very much but I think it's still too early and we will work over the summer to bring in those players who will complete the magnificent squad we already have."

Perez also revealed the club are tracking Bordeaux midfielder Yoann Gourcuff.

"Some have even said he is the new (Zinedine) Zidane," said Perez.

"He (Gourcuff) is a player we have followed in the same way as others who we think will be the top players of tomorrow."

Competition

Perez insists a player not on his radar is Barcelona's Lionel Messi, claiming it would be a mistake to put him alongside Real's record-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Messi is the second-best player in the world after Ronaldo and it would not be a good thing to have both in the same team," he said.

"That way there is more competition."
