Argentina striker extends Bernabeu stay
Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has put speculation over his future to rest by signing a new contract.
Higuain had been linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu as negotiations over an extended deal were said to be dragging.
However, the 22-year-old has agreed terms with the Spanish giants and will remain at the club until 2016.
The former River Plate man arrived to the Primera Liga side in 2007 and has been Real's top scorer for the past two seasons.
He netted 27 goals last season and will now remain under the stewardship of new manager Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese tactician's appointment as Manuel Pellegrini's successor.
Higuain is currently on international duty with Argentina, where he will compete with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Diego Milito and Martin Palermo for a place in Diego Maradona's starting line-up.
The Argentineans take on Greece, Nigeria and South Korea in Group B.
