New Barca deal for Pedro

New Barca deal for Pedro

Spain international Pedro has signed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2015.

The 22-year-old forward proved himself a prolific scorer for Pep Guardiola's side last season, netting 23 goals in all competitions.

He became the only player ever to have scored in all six major tournaments in one season as he found the back of the net for Barca in the Primera Division, Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League, World Club Cup and the Spanish and European Super Cups.

Tenerife-born forward Pedro, who is set to represent Spain at the World Cup when it gets under way this week, took time out from his preparations to extend his contract with Barca president Joan Laporta on Wednesday.

The Catalan club confirmed that Pedro, who scored his first international goal in a friendly against Poland on Tuesday, has been granted a large pay rise and his release clause, formerly set at €75million (Ј62m), has gone up to €90m (Ј74.5m).

He said: "Thanks to this news I will be much more relaxed as I travel to South Africa, and even more excited."
