Real Zaragoza have admitted they are keen to appoint Brighton boss Gus Poyet as their new manager.
Poyet, who only took charge of the Seagulls last month, made over 200 appearances for the Spanish side during a seven-year stay.
The 42-year-old former Spurs and Chelsea midfielder is being lined up as a possible replacement for Marcelino, who was axed by the La Liga strugglers at the weekend.
Zaragoza have tumbled into the relegation zone after taking just one point from their last domestic fixtures and are away to Real Madrid on Saturday in their final game before the winter break.
President Agapito Iglesias said: "We need to revive the team. Gustavo is an idol in Zaragoza."
Poyet was appointed as Brighton boss on 10th November following Russell Slade's departure but has been unable to lift the Withdean Stadium outfit out of the drop zone.
